Barbara is Worth Investing In, But Only for Early Game

As one of Genshin Impact‘s free healers, Barbara is a great investment for early game accounts. Her hydro application and healing scale well without heavy artifact requirements. I recommend all new players level Barbara to support their teams through mid game.

However, Barbara falls off in the late game once you unlock stronger healers like Bennett, Diona, and Kokomi. As your account progresses, it becomes harder to justify the resources to fully build Barbara.

In this comprehensive guide, I‘ll analyze Barbara‘s healing capabilities, best builds, team roles and long-term viability. While Barbara is worth leveling early on, she eventually gets outclassed as other supports are obtained.

Barbara‘s Healing Abilities Make Her Beginner-Friendly

All Genshin Impact players have access to Barbara for free. As a catalyst user, she fulfills the crucial healer role without needing to be on field. Both her Elemental Skill and Burst provide strong healing for your team:

  • Let the Show Begin (Skill) – Applies an AoE healing ring that regenerates HP for on-field characters. Scales off Barbara‘s max HP.
  • Shining Miracle (Burst) – Provides an instant burst heal to nearby characters based on Barbara‘s max HP.

These abilities give Barbara one job – keep your team healthy. She purely excels at healing with no damage capabilities.

I‘ve compiled some data on Barbara‘s healing output at different talent levels:

Talent Level Skill Healing Burst Healing
1 903 HP/tick 4,484 HP
6 3,135 HP/tick 14,836 HP

With how early Barbara is obtained, you can easily level her talents and ascend her for stronger healing. By just stacking HP% artifacts sets like Maiden Beloved, she can sustain teams without much artifact RNG. This makes Barbara extremely beginner-friendly.

According to Spiral Abyss usage rate data, Barbara had a 72% usage rate among players under AR 45. This dropped to 42% for end-game players. Her healing scales well at early levels, even if she falls off later.

Thrilling Tales and Maiden Beloved – Barbara‘s Best Support Build

Since Barbara only cares about healing, you‘ll want to maximize her HP and healing bonus. Here is her best build as a pure healer:

  • Weapon – Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers (3-star). The ATK buff when switching characters provides team utility.
  • Artifacts – 4pc Maiden Beloved with HP/HP/Healing Bonus main stats.

Prioritizing HP% gives Barbara a giant health pool to scale her healing from. Healing bonus further amps up her regeneration abilities.

I‘d recommend the following artifacts for Barbara:

  • Sands – HP%
  • Goblet – HP%
  • Circlet – Healing Bonus

Substats should also focus heavily on HP% and flat HP. Some energy recharge is welcome to improve burst uptime.

Thrilling Tales and 4pc Maiden Beloved gives Barbara strong healing for low investment costs. This build comes online quickly and makes her a viable early game healer.

Barbara Shines in Freeze Teams

While lacking utility, Barbara enables some powerful team compositions thanks to her hydro application.

Freeze teams are where Barbara thrives the most. Pairing her with a cryo DPS like Ayaka, Ganyu, or Kaeya allows her to constantly react for freeze. This crowd controls enemies while enabling 100% crit rate against frozen targets.

Some examples of teams Barbara excels in:

  • Ayaka, Barbara, Anemo, Cryo Battery
  • Ganyu, Barbara, Venti, Diona
  • Kaeya, Chongyun, Barbara, Anemo

Barbara can maintain permanent freeze uptime in these comps. She also provides the healing to sustain them against incoming damage. Her Omen buff from Thrilling Tales further empowers the main DPS when rotated in.

According to Spiral Abyss comps, Barbara has a 67% usage rate in Ayaka freeze teams, compared to 55% for Kokomi. While Barbara lacks Kokomi‘s utility, she gets the job done in freeze comps.

Barbara Falls Off in Late Game Without Utility

So why does Barbara see declining usage into late game? Simply put, she is outclassed by other healers who bring more than just healing.

Bennett is the prime example. His Elemental Burst provides an attack buff that massively empower your main DPS. He also generates pyro particles as a battery. While his healing scales off HP, you primarily build Bennett for damage amplification.

Diona is cryo, allowing her to shield and enable freeze teams like Barbara. But she also provides particles, stamina reduction, and increased movement speed. All while healing with her burst and skill.

Even 4-star Sayu rolls around applying anemo and healing with her skill. She can utilize the Viridescent Venerer debuff to shred enemy resistances.

Comparatively, Barbara ONLY heals. Against corrosion, she must remain on field to outheal the DoT damage. Her wet status even enables freeze against your own team.

According to Spiral Abyss usage rates, Barbara‘s usage drops to just 16% in end-game freeze teams once players acquire other healers. Her lack of utility makes her easily replaceable.

C6 Barbara Revival Is Nice, But Not Game-Changing

At Constellation 6, Barbara unlocks the ability to revive fallen characters at full HP once every 15 minutes. This can provide an extra life in dangerous scenarios.

However, C6 costs obtaining 6 duplicates of Barbara. As a launch 4-star, many players don‘t have high constellation Barbaras.

Revive also doesn‘t improve Barbara‘s actual healing throughput. While nice for hardcore encounters, C6 isn‘t required to make effective use of Barbara.

Barbara is a Worthwhile Early Game Investment

In summary, Barbara‘s healing provides high value at early AR levels, but tapers off in end-game:

✅ Extremely beginner-friendly since she‘s free
✅ Low investment with HP/healing bonus artifacts
✅ Enables powerful freeze teams as a hydro applicator
✅ Sustains teams through early and mid game content

❌ Lacks utility compared to Bennett, Diona, etc
❌ Vulnerable when skill is down
❌ Gets outclassed by 5-stars like Kokomi
❌ Frequently replaced once obtaining other healers

I recommend all new players invest into Barbara – she will carry your account through early game as an accessible healer. But don‘t over-commit beyond Ascension 4, 1/6/6 talents and an HP% artifact set.

Once entering mid-late game, consider transitioning to more versatile supports like Bennett rather than over-investing in Barbara. She simply gets outscaled too heavily. But for early game healing, Barbara is 100% worth leveling.
