Top 3 All-Purpose Greatswords
These 3 made the cut thanks to their excellent balance of damage, speed and versatility. I run them on my main character for tackling any PvE or PvP situation.
Banished Knight’s Greatsword
The Banished Knight‘s GS quickly became my personal favorite thanks to its S-tier base damage and synergy with Quality builds.
I’ve used it to solo even the toughest duo bosses like Godskin Noble & Apostle by relying on its upward cut Stamp skill to absorb attacks and retaliate. Combined with Sword Dance and a Miséricorde dagger, I can consistently stance break bosses in just 2-3 ripostes dealing 5000+ damage.
It‘s also an invader‘s worst nightmare in 1v1s. According to my analytics, I win 90% of my fights largely thanks to the Banished Knight GS catching rolls with its long reach and wide swings.
Location: Dropped by Banished Knights in Stormveil Castle and Castle Sol. I farmed the one near Castle Sol Main Gate for 4 hours to get mine.

Claymore
The undisputed king of greatswords has made a thunderous return. The Claymore’s modest requirements and versatile moveset make it the perfect mid-game weapon to carry you through the rest of the game.
It has just the right balance of speed, damage and reach to adapt to any situation. I regularly out-space overconfident RoB spammers by baiting them into whiffing before punishing with charged Claymore heavy attacks.
I also keep a cold, poison and magic Claymore equipped to quickly swap elements against bosses. The frostbite proc combined with Lion‘s Claw weapon art melts health bars.
Location: In a carriage at Gatefront Ruins.

Flamberge
While the Claymore is still king in my eyes, the Flamberge takes the crown for pure Bleed builds. On my Bandit character with 50 Arcane/Dex, it causes Hemorrhage in just 2-3 jump attacks against most bosses and players.
It has identical moveset to the Claymore but with extra Bleed, making it excellent for baiting enemies into trading hits. After evading attacks with Bloodhound Step, I punish with an R2 into another heavy attack to build massive Bleed stacks.
I once bled out a bullgoat poke user in a single combo by catching him mid-drink!
Location: Dropped by Swordstress in Redmane Castle Plaza after completing Radahn Festival.

Best Boss Killer – Blasphemous Blade
Now here comes the ultimate PvE greatsword against Demigods and dragons – the Blasphemous Blade. I wish I had this when I fought Malenia 100 times on my first playthrough!
On my pure Strength/Faith build, it hits for 600+ per jumping heavy attack. More importantly, it‘s skill Taker‘s Flame nets me 4000+ HP per cast, makes me nearly immortal against bosses, and restores my FP.
I facetanked 대. Placidusax‘s lightning storms, healed to full HP, then finished him off in 30 seconds with Blasphemous Blade skill spams. It‘s honestly easy mode against anything large enough to consistently get hit by the flames.
Location: Transpose remembrance of Rykard after his epic boss fight in Mt. Gelmir. Praise the Erdtree the arena stays scarlet rot free!
