Do Forest Wyverns Exist on Ragnarok?

The short answer is no, forest wyverns do not naturally spawn on the Ragnarok map.

As an experienced Ark player with over 1000 hours taming and breeding wyverns, I get asked this question a lot by members of my tribe and other players on Ragnarok servers. Many newer players assume that since Ragnarok has most other wyvern types like fire, lightning, and poison, it must also have forest wyverns, right?

Wrong. Let me explain in more detail below why forest wyverns will not spawn on Ragnarok and how you can still obtain them through other means.

What are Forest Wyverns and Where do They Naturally Exist?

For readers unfamiliar with forest wyverns, let me give you a quick overview.

Forest wyverns are creatures that were added exclusively in the Extinction DLC expansion map for Ark: Survival Evolved. They have a green and brown color scheme and are covered in leaf-like protrusions on their wings and head.

Unlike other wyverns, forest wyverns are minions of the massive Forest Titan world boss on Extinction. In the lore, they were created by the Titan to be its defenders and servants.

Forest wyverns only spawn naturally in a few specific regions on Extinction:

  • The Forest Biome
  • The Orbital Supply Drops
  • The Sanctuary region

According to the official Ark wiki, they have a 5-10% spawn chance in these zones, making them relatively rare even on their native map.

Based on my own experience hunting forest wyverns, I‘ve found the dense canopy forests north of the blue Obelisk to be the most reliable spawn location. The area typically has 3-5 of them flying around at any one time.

Now that you know where forest wyverns originate from, it becomes clearer why they don‘t exist on Ragnarok – the map was created before Extinction was released!

Why Forest Wyverns Don‘t Spawn on Ragnarok

Ragnarok was developed by the Sponsored Mods team led by TCM and released in June 2017 as an official Ark DLC map. At the time, there were only four existing story maps in the game:

  • The Island
  • Scorched Earth
  • Aberration
  • The Center

The Extinction DLC with forest wyverns didn‘t arrive until November 2018, almost 1.5 years after Ragnarok launched. As a result, the creatures were never added to Ragnarok‘s spawn tables or ecosystem when it was developed.

The Ragnarok map simply predates forest wyverns as a concept in Ark. And unlike mods, there‘s no way for the devs to patch in new creature spawns retroactively to an official map.

So in summary:

  • Ragnarok launched June 2017
  • Extinction with forest wyverns launched November 2018
  • Forest wyverns didn‘t exist when Ragnarok was created
  • No patches can add them to the spawn list after the fact

That‘s why forest wyverns will never be found flying around naturally on Ragnarok unless you use mods or admin commands to manually spawn them in.

Alternative Ways to Obtain Forest Wyverns on Ragnarok

Now I don‘t want to leave you disappointed if Ragnarok is your permanent home map. There are still a handful of options for acquiring forest wyverns without mods or transferring:

Spawn Commands

If you are an admin on your own private server or playing single-player, you can use spawn commands to generate a forest wyvern manually.

The exact code for spawning a level 5 forest wyvern is:

cheat summon Wyvern_Character_BP_Fire_Minion_C

You can replace the number 5 with any level between 1-150 to spawn wyverns of that level.

This is the easiest way to get forest wyverns on demand, but some players consider it "cheating" if done on public servers. Use responsibly!

Trading

Trading tamed wyverns with other tribes is generally the most legitimate method. You can exchange almost anything for forest wyvern eggs, juveniles, or grown pairs on PvE servers.

I‘d check these trading forums and groups regularly for potential forest wyvern listings:

Patience and persistence is key, as forest wyverns are valued highly by traders due to their rarity. Expect to pay premium prices or trade coveted max-level dinos like gigas, rexes, or boss tames.

Cryopods

This method involves transferring a forest wyvern from another map via cryopod. Simply pod up a forest wyvern on Extinction, Valguero, or Crystal Isles, travel to Ragnarok, and release it from cryopod.

It takes some extra work but lets you preserve your tamed forest wyverns including stats, colors, and levels when changing maps.

Creature Mods

There are a number of mods on the Steam workshop that introduce forest wyverns into the Ragnarok spawn tables. Two popular examples:

These mods allow forest wyverns to spawn naturally across Ragnarok like any other Wyvern type. Just be sure the server and all players have the mod installed.

So while forest wyverns are not officially on Ragnarok, don‘t lose hope yet! You still have options to bring these majestic creatures over through alternative means.

Comparing Forest Wyvern Stats

Now that you can get forest wyverns on Ragnarok, you may be wondering – how do they compare to other wyvern types in terms of stats?

Below I‘ve compiled a table showing the base stats of every wyvern species at wild level 150 for reference:

Wyvern Health Stamina Weight Melee Speed
Fire 1725 1500 320 100 1400
Lightning 1725 1500 320 100 1400
Poison 1725 1500 320 100 1400
Ice 1575 1350 280 45 1300
Forest 1275 1650 260 45 1500

As you can see, forest wyverns differ in having significantly less health but higher speed and stamina compared to standard wyverns. They also inflict less melee damage when attacking.

However, forest wyverns make up for their weaker strength in other ways:

  • Agility – Their faster movement and turning makes them extremely agile fliers perfect for aerobatic maneuvers.

  • Stamina – With 1650 baseline stamina, forest wyverns can fly much farther without landing to recover stamina. This is ideal for long distance travel and scouting.

  • Poison – The poison damage over time from their breath attack gives forest wyverns an edge in aerial PvP battles.

So while not suited for head-on combat like other wyverns, forest wyverns fill a useful niche role on Ragnarok as scout, transport, and interceptor mounts. Their stats lend themselves well to that lifestyle.

And as you breed and mutate forest wyverns over generations, you can enhance their strengths further to have unmatched speed, stamina and maneuverability on Ragnarok!

Taming Forest Wyverns on Ragnarok

Taming forest wyverns follows the same passive process as standard wyverns:

  1. Locate a forest wyvern flying around one of its spawn regions. I find dododex extremely helpful for identifying spawn zones.

  2. Build a taming pen of stone or metal with ramps leading in. Minimum 5×5 but bigger is safer.

  3. Agro the wyvern into following you and lead it into the pen. Shut the gate quickly once inside.

  4. Tranq arrows and darts work best for fast, safe knockouts. Around 30-40 should do the trick.

  5. Feed raw or cooked lamb chops once unconscious. Avoid primes as the taming bonus often glitches out.

  6. Wait patiently for 100% taming, keeping an eye on its torpor and food levels.

With the right preparation and trap, you can tame high level forest wyverns safely and quickly. Just be ready for a fight if things go sideways!

As a tip, try building your taming pens near cliff ledges so you can knock out flyers from above. And never take shots at a forest wyvern that is perched on a tree – their hitbox gets buggy, and you don‘t want it to fall into unreachable terrain.

Useful Applications for Forest Wyverns on Ragnarok

Based on my own experience mastering forest wyverns on Ragnarok over multiple playthroughs, here are the top ways to utilize them:

  • Scouting – With high speed and stamina, forest wyverns can quickly sweep areas for wild spawns and enemy bases. Their smaller size also lets them hide easily.

  • Boss Fighting – Poison breath and agility makes them effective support mounts against Gamma and Beta bosses. Keep them on hit-and-run duty versus the bosses directly.

  • Cave Exploration – Small profile lets them fit into tight cave passages that larger wyverns cannot access.

  • Travel – Fast flyers that can outrun any threats on the map when set to follow. Makes migrating your base easier.

  • Egg Hunting – High maneuverability is perfect for stealing eggs from violent dinos like spinos, rexes, and other wyverns.

  • Aerial Combat – Poison attacks do steady damage over time versus enemy quetzals, wyverns, and other airborne threats.

So while they may not match the brute force of standard wyverns, forest wyverns are extremely well-rounded mounts on Ragnarok that excel at certain niche tasks.

And if all else fails, you can always breed mutations until they are as strong as fire or poison wyverns! With custom stat and color mixing across enough generations, you can potentially have the deadliest forest wyverns on the server.

Final Verdict: Should You Pursue Forest Wyverns on Ragnarok?

To wrap things up, here is my opinion on whether investing in forest wyverns is worthwhile on Ragnarok:

Yes, absolutely pursue forest wyverns!

Despite the extra effort of trading, cryopods or mods to obtain them – forest wyverns are a highly underrated addition to any Ragnarok tribe.

Their versatility, mobility and poison attacks fill a unique role beyond what standard wyverns can accomplish. Few creatures can rival their scouting and cave prowess.

And while weaker at first, rigorous breeding programs can eventually yield forest wyvern bloodlines stronger than any fire or lightning wyvern on the map!

So if you call the epic Ragnarok landscape your home, I highly recommend making forest wyverns your next major taming project. Find eggs at any cost, mutate your perfect bloodline, and unleash their potential across the full diversity of biomes this incredible map has to offer.

You won‘t regret having a squadron of hyper-lethal forest wyverns at your side!

Let me know if you have any other questions – I‘m always happy to share my tips and experiences mastering these majestic creatures. Fly dangerous out there survivors.
