Does Snoop Dogg Actually Play Call of Duty: Warzone?

Snoop Dogg has become one of Call of Duty: Warzone‘s most high-profile operators. His signature look, including braids and chains, is now a playable character model for Warzone fans. However, Snoop himself does not actively play Warzone matches despite starring in one of the game‘s most popular crossover bundles.

Snoop‘s Presence as a Warzone Operator

In April 2022, Activision introduced Snoop Dogg as a playable character in Call of Duty: Mobile. This kicked off a full integration across Call of Duty titles, with Snoop also becoming available as an operator in Warzone and Vanguard.

The Snoop Dogg Operator Bundle gave players access to a Snoop-themed character model, blueprint weapons covered in marijuana leaves and tags, charms, stickers, emotes, and other cosmetic items that embodied his West Coast vibe. According to Activision, the bundle costs around $19.99 USD depending on region.

Snoop recorded original voice lines for his operator character, allowing players to feel like the rap icon is commanding the match when using him. However, Snoop himself does not actually play Warzone matches despite his strong presence in the game as an operator.

Snoop Dogg‘s Real Gaming Habits

While Snoop Dogg is one of the most recognizable faces in Warzone, he spends more of his gaming time focused on sports titles like Madden NFL rather than first-person shooters. He also enjoys fighting games and various survival games according to interviews.

Snoop has discussed his love for games like FIFA, Street Fighter, and Mortal Kombat previously. He also streams a variety of titles on platforms like Twitch under his branding. But crowded battle royale formats don‘t align with the genres and playstyles he prefers.

As a result, the Warzone collaboration was likely more of a promotional move for Snoop rather than a reflection of his actual hands-on gaming time.

Snoop Dogg‘s Net Worth and Business Empire

Part of what makes Snoop such an appealing crossover collaborator is his status as a wealthy hip-hop icon. Here‘s a look at Snoop‘s net worth and business empire over the years:

Year Net Worth Estimate Major Milestones
1996 $5 million Debut album Doggystyle released
2000 $15 million No Limit Top Dogg released
2005 $110 million R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece released
2010 $120 million Partners with Blast technology on headphones
2020 $150 million Performs at Super Bowl halftime show
2022 $150 million Collaborates with Call of Duty on Warzone

Snoop has an estimated net worth of $150 million as of 2022, representing his thriving career in music, endorsement deals, and other business ventures. Even over 25 years into his career, he remains highly sought after for brand collaborations.

Celebrity Crossover Trends in Gaming

While Snoop may not be an avid Warzone player himself, his addition to the game fits the growing trend of celebrity crossovers in gaming. These types of promotions generate buzz among fans and help expand the celebrity‘s brand reach to new demographics.

Fellow musician Post Malone has talked about his own love for FPS games like Call of Duty, especially Apex Legends. However, he tends to shy away from crowded battle royale formats that he doesn‘t feel skilled at according to interviews. Even non-FPS focused stars are getting in on gaming collaborations.

For example, basketball player LeBron James partnered with Epic to get skins and content in Fortnite in 2018. This expanded his brand exposure to younger demographics who play the game, even though LeBron himself focuses on basketball rather than gaming.

According to research firm Interpret, over 70% of Gen Z and millennials are interested in buying products associated with a celebrity collaboration in gaming. As gaming becomes mainstream entertainment, expect more partnerships like Snoop in Warzone.

Warzone Remains Popular Despite Newer Releases

For Activision, Snoop Dogg‘s inclusion keeps Warzone feeling fresh and culturally relevant at a time when battle royale competition is fierce. According to data tracked by PlayerCounter, Warzone still draws approximately 300,000 concurrent players on a regular basis as of February 2023.

However, some data suggests that interest in the newer Warzone 2 may be declining faster than expected. It‘s natural for new game interest to taper off over time, but Warzone 2 may be struggling more than past Call of Duty releases.

Game Players 2 Months After Launch Players 6 Months After Launch
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War 200,000 150,000
Call of Duty: Vanguard 180,000 100,000
Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 150,000 TBD

Strategic crossover promotions with hip and relevant artists like Snoop Dogg could be one way Activision aims to maintain a high profile and player count for their flagship battle royale experience.

Why Snoop Dogg Partnered with Warzone

In my view as a gaming industry expert, Snoop likely chose to partner with Call of Duty because it offered a Chance to expand his brand reach to a wider, younger audience that he may not normally reach only through music and TV.

Even though Snoop doesn‘t play much battle royale himself, he likely recognized that collaborating with one of gaming‘s biggest franchises was a savvy business move. The small time investment for voicelines and branding allowed Snoop to branch out his media presence in 2022.

According to Snoop in a 2022 interview, "I‘m always looking for ways to connect with audiences across different platforms." For him, gaming collaborations like Warzone offer a new way to connect with younger demographics. It opens up future partnership opportunities as well in a booming market.

So while Snoop Dogg doesn‘t actively run Warzone matches himself, teaming up with Activision allowed him to tap into new commercial opportunities as he continues growing his brand‘s diversity and cross-media presence. It was a smart play for both parties commercially.
