Does the Strongest Soldier Levi Actually Need a Sword?
Hey friend! Captain Levi Ackerman here – they call me "humanity‘s strongest soldier," but I couldn‘t earn that title without my trusty twin swords. From my first Titan kill to defending the walls from the Beast Titan himself, these blades have been with me through thick and thin. Let me tell you why I still swear by the sword against these giant monsters!
See, I wasn‘t always the refined fighter you know today…I grew up an urchin in the ruthless Underground. My uncle Kenny taught me how to survive down there, mostly by slashing people up. Not exactly noble, I know. But it meant I learned to handle a blade before I was even a teenager.
Once I joined the Survey Corps, I trained relentlessly to master the sword. My usual drill was slicing through 500 practice dummies in under 5 minutes! I‘d practice my signature backwards grip and spinning attack until even those flashy moves felt natural. Some numbers for you stat geeks:
- My spinning attack has an estimated velocity of 45 mph when fully mastered
- I can dispatch a 4m Titan with only 2-3 slashes on average
- My personal best is 47 solo Titan kills in one expedition
Trust me, no gunslinger can match that kind of speed and efficiency against these monsters! ODM mobility gear lets me dash and dive all around a Titan‘s weak spots. With my swords, I can target the nape of their neck in the blink of an eye before they know what hit ‘em.
Grappling hooks and swords are tried and true against Titans. But don‘t just take my word for it…that‘s also why my fellow Ackerman Mikasa sticks with blades as her go-to. Our sword skills come from natural Ackerman instincts! Though between you and me, I‘m still the best swordsman of our clan.
Imagine trying to blast the nape of a 14m Titan‘s neck with a shotgun from midair…you‘d get smacked like a fly! Blades don‘t run out of ammo or jam up either. And nothing beats the satisfaction of my spinning slice cutting through thick Titan flesh and bone.
Call me old-fashioned, but technology can only get you so far when you‘re facing down a roaring Titan. I‘ll keep trusting in my skills and steel before any newfangled guns or gadgets, thank you very much. These swords have taken down the Beast Titan and the Female Titan – let‘s see your firearms try that!

My swords and I can topple Titans and save lives, as we‘ve done time and time again. And that‘s why I won‘t be trading them in anytime soon. The day I switch to guns is the day I hang up my ODM gear for good!
