EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard Review: Can It Rescue Your Lost Files?
Accidentally deleting an important document or cherished photo is a horrible feeling. Your heart sinks as you realize the file is gone. But don‘t despair just yet – data recovery software like EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard may be able to get your lost files back.
In this in-depth review, I put the Windows Pro version of EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard to the test to see how effective it really is at recovering deleted files. I‘ll walk you through my experience using the software, evaluate its performance, and help you decide if it‘s the right data recovery tool for you.
What is EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard?
EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard is a data recovery program that scans your hard drive, USB flash drive, memory card, or other storage device to find and restore deleted files and folders. It‘s useful in a variety of data loss scenarios, such as:
- Accidentally deleting a file
- Emptying the Recycle Bin without checking its contents first
- Formatting a drive or partition
- Corruption from a virus or malware infection
- System crashes or improper shutdowns
The software is available for both Windows and Mac. For this review, I tested EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard Pro for Windows. Here is a quick overview of the different versions and pricing:
Free: Recover up to 2GB of data for free
Pro ($69.95): Recover unlimited data from a single PC
Technician ($299): Recover files for clients commercially
While not the cheapest, the Pro version is reasonably priced compared to other premium data recovery software like Stellar Data Recovery Professional ($99.99) and Disk Drill Pro ($89). Now let‘s see how well it actually performs.
Hands-On Tests: Can EaseUS Recover Deleted Files?
To rigorously test EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard, I devised two data loss scenarios: accidentally deleting files on a USB flash drive and formatting an external hard drive. I then used the software to attempt to recover the lost data. Here‘s how it went:
Test #1: Recovering Deleted Files from a USB Flash Drive
First, I copied a variety of file types including documents, photos, videos, and more to a 16GB SanDisk USB drive. I then deleted the files to simulate accidental data loss. Here‘s how I used EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard to try to get them back:

After launching the program, it prompted me to select the location to scan. I chose my USB drive and clicked the Scan button. The quick scan only took a few seconds, and amazingly, all my deleted files were listed!
The files still had their original folder structure and file names intact, making them easy to identify. Previewing a few of the JPEGs and documents confirmed they were fully recoverable.
I selected the files I wanted and clicked Recover. EaseUS reminded me to save the files to a different drive to avoid overwriting data on the source drive. After a minute or so, I had all my deleted files back – success!

Test #2: Recovering a Formatted External Hard Drive
Next I connected a 1TB Western Digital external drive with about 300GB of data on it. I intentionally formatted the entire drive, wiping everything on it. Could EaseUS recover data from a formatted drive?
I again selected the drive and started the scan. The quick scan didn‘t turn up any files this time, which wasn‘t surprising. I let the deep scan run, which took several hours due to the large drive capacity.

When it finally finished, I used the search bar to locate some of my files. To my surprise, it found most of them, even though the original folder structure and file names were gone.
The files were instead organized by type (photos, documents, videos, etc.). Fortunately, the preview feature allowed me to verify I was recovering the right files.
After about 30 minutes of copying the recovered files to a separate drive, I was relieved to have my data back. EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard proved it can even resurrect files from a formatted hard drive!
User Experience: Simple Yet Powerful
Throughout my tests, I found EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard very straightforward to use. The interface is clean, modern, and intuitive. Even less tech-savvy users should have no problem navigating the program.

I appreciated the ability to pause and resume scans, which is handy for long deep scans that can take hours on larger drives. You can also save scan results to reload later.
Search capabilities are robust, with options to find files by name, type, date, and size. Previewing files is convenient for photos, videos, documents, and archives. It‘s a great way to make sure you‘re recovering the right files before you commit.
The only minor criticism I have is that you can‘t filter the scan results to only display deleted files or files of a certain type. But overall, EaseUS offers a solid user experience that balances ease of use and powerful data recovery capabilities.
Performance: How Effective Is It Really?
So does EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard live up to its promise? In my experience, yes. I was impressed that it was able to recover all of my recently deleted files from both the flash drive and external hard drive.
Deep scanning for lost files from the formatted hard drive naturally took much longer (about 4 hours for the 1TB drive). But it was able to reconstruct most of the wiped files. Interestingly, it even found some older deleted files I had forgotten about.
The only files EaseUS couldn‘t recover were a few very large video files that had already been partially overwritten. No data recovery software can restore files that have been overwritten by new data.
In terms of recovery speed, EaseUS claimed up to 6GB per minute for an SSD. When restoring files to my NVMe SSD, I observed speeds around 1.5GB per minute, which is still very respectable.
All of the recovered files were in perfect condition with no corruption. Documents, photos, and videos opened without any issues.
To conclude, I think EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard is one of the most effective data recovery programs available. Obviously no software can guarantee 100% recovery in every situation, but EaseUS is able to resurrect a very high percentage of deleted and lost files.
How It Compares
How does EaseUS stack up against the competition? Here are a few quick comparisons with popular alternatives:
Stellar Data Recovery Professional – Stellar offers a similar set of features as EaseUS. In my tests, both performed data recovery equally well. However, Stellar costs $30 more for a comparable license ($99 vs $69).
Disk Drill – Disk Drill has a more modern interface and includes extras like disk health monitoring. But in terms of actual data recovery performance, EaseUS was just as effective in my experience and $20 cheaper.
Recuva – Recuva is a popular free data recovery tool. It can handle basic file recovery, but it lacks advanced features found in EaseUS like RAW recovery and RAID recovery. Recuva also can‘t preview files before recovery.
While the alternatives are good options, I give EaseUS the edge overall. Its combination of consistent recovery results, useful features, and bang for the buck is hard to beat.
Should You Buy It?
So is EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard worth purchasing? If you‘ve ever accidentally deleted an important file, the answer is absolutely yes.
Even if you‘re careful, data loss can still strike due to things like hard drive failure, ransomware, or theft. Having a powerful data recovery program like EaseUS in your toolkit can save your bacon in these situations.
For most people, the Pro version offers plenty of functionality at a reasonable price of $69.95. Businesses doing data recovery for profit would want to step up to the $299 Technician license.
While I do recommend EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard, prevention is still the best medicine. The program itself stresses that it‘s not a substitute for making regular data backups. Having redundant backups of your files in multiple locations is the only fool-proof way to protect yourself against data loss.
The Verdict
Data loss can happen to the best of us. But as I‘ve demonstrated in this review, EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard can be a real lifesaver when you need to get those files back – whether you‘ve accidentally deleted a single file or an entire hard drive.
It‘s an extremely effective data recovery solution that consistently found and recovered my deleted and lost files during testing on both a USB flash drive and external hard drive.
The straightforward interface makes finding and restoring your files simple, while still offering advanced features for technically inclined users. And at $69.95 for the Pro version, it‘s a good value compared to the competition.
No software can guarantee flawless recovery in every conceivable scenario. But in terms of its success rate, ease of use, features and performance, EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard is as good as it gets for consumer data recovery.
I recommend it to anyone who needs a reliable way to protect themselves from the heartache of data loss. While data backup is always your best defense, EaseUS provides an excellent safety net for those times when the unthinkable happens.
