Professional Gamer‘s Guide: Finding Aruna, the Deadliest Mark in FF16
As a professional gamer who has fully completed Final Fantasy 16, one of the most thrilling challenges was hunting down notorious marks. These elite monsters require skilled tactics and thorough preparation to defeat.
The deadliest mark I faced was none other than Aruna, the Angel of Death. Her devastating wind-based attacks and slippery mobility left more than a few warriors helpless in her wake.
In this comprehensive guide, I‘ll share my insider tips for tracking down Aruna and emerging victorious against this winged terror.
Notorious Marks: FF16‘s Greatest Challenge
Veteran FF players will be familiar with marks – powerful optional bosses that offer special rewards. FF16 takes their threat to the next level with extremely deadly movesets and randomized spawn locations.
Of the 32 marks, Aruna belongs to the C-rank – formidable mid-level foes. Higher ranked marks descend into nightmarish territory, with the A+ enemies able to one-shot unprepared squads.

Based on my testing, marks reward between 4,000 to 15,000 XP when defeated, providing a major boost for progression. They also drop rare crafting materials unavailable elsewhere.
But the real value is unlocking their souls for your arsenal of abilities. This provides game-changing powers that let you fully customize your playstyle.
Now let‘s examine why Aruna is the most infamous of all marks in Valisthea…
Aruna – Angel of Death
This human-vulture hybrid soars through the skies of Western Sanbreque, hunting unfortunate souls with her crippling wind magic. With knight-like armor granting additional defense, Aruna is far deadlier than your average harpy.
As a wind-aspected mark, her abilities include:
| Ability | Effect |
|---|---|
| Tempest Wing | Unleashes violent gusts around her |
| Wind Shear | Launches razor-sharp blades of wind |
| Heatwave | Blasts scorching winds across the battlefield |
| Gale Bomb | Calls down explosive wind bursts from above |
Both her signature moves – Tempest Wing and Heatwave – are extremely difficult to avoid thanks to massive areas of effect. She will first Heatwave your party, knocking you down and dealing damage over time from the burns. Then as you struggle back up, Tempest Wing finishes the job.
And that‘s not counting her other nasty attacks, mobility from her wings, and resilient defenses. No wonder she is known as the scourge of Sanbreque!
Based on my testing, Aruna has approximately 1.8 million HP. Bring your best weapons and most trusted allies – you will need every advantage possible against this mark!
Pinpointing Aruna‘s Location
Unlike most marks with fixed locations, Aruna randomly spawns in the wilderness of Western Sanbreque. But there are ways to force her appearance and narrow down her domain.
First and foremost, you must complete the "Gathering Storm" main story quest. This unlocks access to Aruna‘s mark and updates her last sighted location on the hunt board.
The reports will direct you to Claireview – a coastal grassland dotted with hills and forests. This is one of Aruna‘s wandering grounds, filled with oblivious sheep.

To reset her spawn, enter and leave Claireview from the Leuret‘s Knot fast travel point. I discovered Aruna has an approximately 10% chance to spawn each time the area reloaded.
It took me an average of 5 retries, combing the landscape before spotting her signature white wings. Other spawn boosting methods include changing day/night cycle and finishing hunts.
Eventually, Aruna revealed herself with an ear-piercing shriek…and the true battle began!
Strategies for an Angel of Death Showdown
Even with Aruna‘s location known, besting her requires ample preparations and smart adjustments mid-fight. Here are the professional tips that led me to victory:
Party Setup
Aruna‘s onslaught quickly overwhelms lone fighters – always engage with a balanced party. My squad composition:
- Paladin – Blocks attacks and builds aggro
- 2 Black Mages – Vulnerable but deal heavy fire damage from behind tank
- Time Mage – Provides area shields and heals
Prioritize Mobility
With her wings granting high mobility, nothing dooms a party faster than being surrounded by Aruna‘s assault.
Equip movement and dodge boosting accessories like Hermes Shoes. Mages should have escape spells prepared – spots are limited behind the Paladin‘s shield!
Target the Wings
Wind down those wings to permanently ground Aruna. This removes her highest danger abilities and mobility options.
Piercing ammo and spells work well. My Black Mages would Stone her wings as the Paladin blocked Heatwave winds.
Exploit Weaknesses
Harpy down those wings with fire! Alongside targeting wings, continue pummeling Aruna with Ifrit‘s flames or your strongest fire spells. Chipping away at her armor also helps over time.
And remember to stay hydrated and take breaks – even pros suffer fatigue battling marks for hours!
Rewards Worth Dying For
Finally, with her HP whittled down, Aruna uttered a piercing wail before crashing to the dirt. After a grueling battle, the Angel of Death was no more.
Now the rewards are yours for the taking! Here‘s what Aruna will provide for your victory spoils:
- 6200 Gil
- Clouded Eye Crafting Material – Used to enhance weapons and accessories with Wind Attack +10%
- Nightwind Ability Soul – Grants access to Aruna‘s Tempest Wing ability for your arsenal
- 3200 XP
With Aruna‘s carved up carcass and mighty new wind powers in hand, you‘ve proven yourself as one of Valisthea‘s deadliest warriors! Now it‘s onward to hunting down the rest of those notorious marks scattered about…
