My Extremely Honest Review After Trying Glossier‘s Cult-Fave Products

As an avid makeup junkie, I‘ve been curious to try Glossier‘s sheer, minimalist products that enhance rather than obscure your natural beauty. Dubbed "skin first, makeup second," the brand‘s fresh-faced aesthetic attracts millennials like me wanting to appear effortlessly dewy.

After testing several hyped items in my own routine, I can finally share an inside look at whether Glossier nails its glowy promises. Does the reality live up to the hype? Read my honest review finding out!

Overview: What Makes Glossier So Popular?

Founded by beauty blogger Emily Weiss in 2014, Glossier utilizes community feedback to create "no makeup makeup" cosmetics. This means lightweight, sheer coverage focused on illumination over transformation.

Rather than mask skin‘s natural texture, finishes look like an extension of you. Glossier blew up over having its finger on the pulse of what young consumers want: to enhance not obscure inner radiance.

With 2.7 million Instagram followers and $100 million in venture capital funding, the brand holds serious clout. So what exactly makes their anywear, everyday style so addictive?

Glossier‘s Hero Products and Best Sellers

Glossier keeps shoppers coming back through bestsellers that deliver on promises of glow, flushed cheeks, groomed brows and ultra-hydration.

Perfecting Skin Tint – Sheer, buildable foundation with skincare benefits
Cloud Paint – Seamless gel-cream cheek color for natural flush
Boy Brow – Creamy pomade for fuller yet groomed brows
Futuredew – Face oil/serum hybrid for glass skin glow
Balm Dotcom – Uber-nourishing, fashionably flavored lip balms

While the brand now offers a full makeup and skincare lineup, these hero classics align closest to its less-is-more philosophy.

I put Skin Tint, Cloud Paint, Boy Brow and other favorites to the test over three weeks. Keep reading for my honest review on if Glossier products work as promised!

Testing Methodology and My Skin Type

To evaluate Glossier‘s bestsellers, I incorporated them into my usual 5-minute makeup routine. I assessed ease of use along with how skin looked and felt after a full workday‘s wear.

As a baseline, I have combination skin (oily T-zone, normal cheeks) with a medium skin tone. For makeup, I prefer light coverage with a radiant, polished finish. Full glam beats me down!

Over 21 days, I tried these Glossier products:

  • Perfecting Skin Tint
  • Stretch Concealer
  • Cloud Paint (Beam, Puff and Dawn)
  • Boy Brow (Brown)
  • Lash Slick Mascara
  • Cherry Balm Dotcom

I also purchased during a 20% off sitewide sale plus free shipping over $30. Read on for my review breaking down each item‘s performance!

My Glossier Skin Tint Review: Sheer Perfection?

As Glossier‘s OG hero product, I had high hopes for Skin Tint to save me time while making skin glow. Its formula promises "your skin but better" with a breathable tint.

The Good

  • Lightweight, comfortable feel you forget is there
  • Evens skin tone with a semi-matte finish
  • Lasts without fading or transferring for 10+ hours
  • Buildable shear coverage perfect for low key days

The Bad

  • Can accentuate dry patches if you don‘t moisturize
  • Limited shade range leaves deeper skin tones underserved
  • Glass applicator not the easiest to use

Is It Worth $26?

For me yes – the flattering tone and fuss-free application suit my weekday vibe. I don‘t need tons of coverage for Zoom calls and running errands!

It makes my medium skin glow without getting greasy or sliding around in humidity. Those with drier or very rich skin should pass though.

Overall Rating: 4.2 / 5

My Glossier Cloud Paint Review: Your Cheeks But Brighter!

Of all Glossier‘s products, I was most curious to try its viral Cloud Paint cream blush with over 50k reviews. Available in 8 shades, I picked universally flattering Beam (peachy pink) along with Puff (cool berry) and Dawn (sunset peach).

The Good

  • Gel-cream texture blends seamlessly into cheeks
  • Buildable sheer pigment makes it hard to mess up
  • Gives the perfect lit-from-within warmth
  • Stays put all day without fading
  • Clean, cruelty free formula

The Bad

  • Can pull dark on deeper skin tones
  • Not friendly for oily skin types
  • Shades skew bright vs. neutral

Is It Worth $20?

100% yes – it nails the effortless flush essential for "no makeup" makeup. I will re-purchase Beam and Dawn forever, skipping only the too-shimmery Puff.

Easy 5/5 rating for me! This feels akin to dabbing on positivity before starting my day.

Overall Rating: 4.8 / 5

My Glossier Boy Brow Review: Fluffy, Feathered Brows in Seconds

I‘ll admit to raising eyebrows over a $16 brow pomade. But Glossier stans couldn‘t stop raving about how Boy Brow grooms arches perfectly. So I gave the cult favorite a go in Brown during my product testing extravaganza.

The Good

  • Creamy texture doesn‘t get crusty or flakey
  • Subtly thickens brows with a natural finish
  • Both grooms and sets hairs in place
  • Fills sparse spots seamlessly
  • Easy to apply straight from tube

The Bad

  • Shade range could better embrace gray hair
  • Not as longwearing as traditional pomade

Is It Worth $16?

I wasn‘t prepared to stan a brow product this hard, but Boy Brow made me toss all pencils and powders. Even my Anastasia dipbrow!

It‘s foolproof to apply, easy to tweak and keeps brows behaving without looking overdone. So yes, it‘s worth every penny for me.

Overall Rating: 5/5 – Consider me a Boy Brow evangelist

Additional Glossier Reviews: Lash Slick and Balm Dotcom

To round out my Glossier experiment, I also tested Lash Slick and Balm Dotcom lip balm. Here is my quick take:

Glossier Lash Slick Mascara

This clean, lengthening mascara beautifully separates lashes and resists flaking or smudging. The brush makes application almost too easy. My lashes looked feathered and fluttery!

I didn‘t experience any irritation or panda eyes after a 12 hour wear. For $16, it has become my daily go-to for wide awake eyes.

Overall: 5/5

Glossier Balm Dotcom in Cherry

This uber-hydrating lip balm glides on slick then sets to a comfy matte texture. The fruity cherry scent feels fun and summery! It kept my lips quenched for hours – no cracks or peeling.

At $14 the pricing stings for 0.5oz, especially when scrubs and oils are cheaper. But the sheer sensory joy of using wins me over. Will purchase again!

Overall: 4/5

Glossier Review: Final Verdict

So after three weeks of playing mad scientist with Glossier‘s lineup, do the results justify the hype? I say yes – when aligned to the right expectations and skin type.

For flawless, ultra-pigmented makeup that totally transforms…look elsewhere. But to accentuate your fresh-faced radiance, their formulas excel.

I notice my skin looks mysteriously brighter and clearer after swiping on Skin Tint, Cloud Paint and Boy Brow. The overall effect seems akin to a filter or Instagram glow effect!

My favorites – Cloud Paint, Lash Slick and Boy Brow – all pass the ‘use up then repurchase test‘ with their unique, effective formulas. At 1-2 uses per week each, my initial set should last around a year making costs per wear affordable.

The one disappointment proved Skin Tint, accentuating patches of dryness post-winter skin struggles. I must remember to exfoliate and hydrate to make it work!

So is Glossier worth it? For me, mostly yes albeit not a 100% match. Hope my transparency around what worked (and what didn‘t) helps you decide if their vision of minimalist beauty fits your reality!
