God of War Ragnarök: An Expert‘s Journey through the Song of the Sands

As an avid God of War fan who has put over 200 hours into the sequel, I was instantly captivated when the "Song of the Sands" quest first appeared on my Alfheim map.

The promise of delving into a forbidden desert in search of mythical beasts awakened my inner adventurer! But I soon learned that successfully navigating the Burrows demanded much more than mere enthusiasm…

Braving the Sands – Optimal Progression Tactics

Entering the Forbidden Sands introduces players to a brand new playspace packed with unfamiliar hazards and challenging enemies. Here are some key gameplay tips I picked up during my initial forays into this expansive desert area:

• Gear Up for Exploration – The Sands feature wide open spaces that encourage freedom of movement and environmental interaction. Equip amulets boosting Vitality recovery, protective armor, or strength-enhancing gauntlets before arriving.
• Acquire Sonic Arrows – Atreus becomes invaluable for solving buried puzzles and revealing hidden paths. Invest Steel & Leather for his Sonic Arrow ability via the skills menu.
• Level Blades of Chaos – Many Stone Plates and resin shields lurk underground. Pour XP into upgrading the Blades with Permafrost, Hyperion Grapple, or Blast of Hephaestus to counter these obstacles.
• Unlock Sand Bow Skills – Don‘t ignore Atreus! Tree progress unlocks helpful moves like Multi-Shot, Rapid Fire, and Predator Bow that dispatch swarming foes.

Entering Alfheim around level 5 provided the edge I needed to counter deadly new attacks while exploring freely. But the real trial lay just ahead…

Overcoming the Hive Barriers

I surveyed the foreboding entrance to the Burrows with confidence. But Dense Hive Matter barriers blocked forward progress at nearly every turn once inside the claustrophobic passages. Each blue-glowing obstruction easily resisted the Frost Axe, forcing me to uncover solutions hidden in the crumbling ruins.

The key devices that permitted entry deeper into the caverns? Glowing deposits of Twilight Stone Ore embedded throughout the decrepit tunnels.

Usage Tactics

• Ricochet Frost Axe off Twilight Stone directly into Dense Hive Matter chunks
• Shoot Twilight Stone clusters with Atreus‘ Sonic Arrows to fully reveal them
• Look for subtle glowing cracks at Kratos‘ feet to uncover buried deposits
• Hide behind the magical ore chunks to protect from lunging enemies

Only by sharp observation and expert axe trajectories could I leverage the mystical ore to penetrate farther towards the quest‘s ultimate goal.

Battling the Beasts Below critically yet approachably

While Dense Hive Matter resisted frontal assault, the caverns‘ living dangers posed even greater threats with vicious tenacity around every rocky bend.

Sand Crawlers rapidly encircled Atreus and I with biting mandibles and bursts of corrosive acid from a distance. Meanwhile, heavy-clawed Burrowers tunneled under the sand to eviscerate us with crushing swipes whenever we focused attacks elsewhere.

Facing these lethal new foes tested my combat awareness and reaction time to the limit! Only through hard-fought knowledge did effective strategies finally emerge:

• Sand Crawlers
  • Use Leviathan‘s Frost Attack to freeze them rapidly
  • Switch to Blades of Chaos to shatter their brittle bodies
  • Atreus‘ Shock Arrows stun them nicely as well
• Burrowers
  • Dodge under their bite attacks by ducking
  • Parry their deadly claw swipes correctly to expose their eye
  • Charge up Hyperion Grapple to extract theirfrontal fangs

The vice-like corridors left little margin for error. But persevering eventually earned mastery over even the most vicious subterranean threats!

Quest Completion & Rewards

At long last, the final Dense Hive Matter barrier shattered before me…the chamber housing mythical Hafgufa now ached to be plundered! Ancient bindings and resin shields were all that stood between myself and coveted spoils.

Destroying each enclosure emitted a powerful magical energy. Had I finally unearthed the legendary Pearl Sands of myth?

The sand vortex eventually subsided…revealing the opened Hive Cage rewarded 1,500 XP to Kratos and 375 XP to Atreus! But even more valuably, toppling the ancient creature dispelled violent ash storms surrounding the Forbidden Sands. The once perilous wasteland now welcomed exploration under calmer skies.

As a final gift, I also discovered Hel‘s Touch contained in a legendary chest along the quest‘s critical path. This Epic-rarity Relic emits an explosive ghostly realm projection that instantly knocks back surround enemies. I wasted no time socketing this beauty back in Niflheim!

I relished discovering long-buried secret paths via wall-running, toppling boulders to clear blocked passages, and mastering the luminous lore of Twilight Stone.

But even more epic adventures await on the horizon! Hafgufa‘s mysterious disappearance into the seas surely heralds greater celestial threats brewing. And rare crafting materials harvested from glittering tunnels may someday forge devastating endgame weapons rivaling even Mjölnir itself…
