The launch of Confidential VMs comes on the heels of Google‘s $450 million acquisition of Cybereason, an AI-driven endpoint detection and response platform. The integration of Cybereason‘s predictive AI models into Google‘s Chronicle security analytics platform enables customers to proactively hunt for and eliminate cyber threats across their hybrid cloud environments.

Industry analysts see the moves as strong indications of Google‘s commitment to providing best-in-class security for enterprise customers. "Google is sending a clear message that it intends to lead the pack when it comes to cloud security innovation," said Frank Dickson, Program Vice President of Security and Trust at IDC. "Confidential computing and AI-driven threat detection are quickly becoming table stakes for enterprises operating in highly regulated industries."

The Rise of the Hybrid AI Cloud: Anthos + Vertex AI

For organizations pursuing a hybrid cloud strategy, Google‘s Anthos platform has emerged as a compelling choice for modernizing applications and ensuring a consistent development and operations experience across on-premises and cloud environments. At Cloud Next, Google doubled down on Anthos with a host of new capabilities aimed at accelerating hybrid AI and multi-cloud adoption.

Chief among the enhancements is the integration of Vertex AI into the Anthos stack, enabling organizations to build, deploy, and manage ML models in their own data centers or other cloud environments using the same end-to-end toolchain available in Google Cloud.

"With Vertex AI on Anthos, we‘re bringing Google‘s leadership in AI to our customers‘ hybrid environments," said Eyal Manor, VP of Engineering at Google Cloud. "It means organizations can now tap into our best-in-class ML capabilities using their existing infrastructure and have the flexibility to deploy AI workloads across Google Cloud, on-prem, and other clouds as their business needs dictate."

Anthos Hybrid AI Architecture

The Anthos announcements come as multi-cloud adoption continues to accelerate. According to IDC, 93% of enterprises have a multi-cloud strategy in place or underway, with 87% saying hybrid is an essential part of their IT plans. Google‘s investments in Anthos and hybrid AI aim to meet customers where they are in their cloud journeys and provide a non-disruptive path to modernization.

"Google has planted its flag as a leader in the hybrid multi-cloud space with Anthos," said Dave McCarthy, Research Vice President for Cloud and Edge Infrastructure Services at IDC. "The combination of Anthos‘ application modernization capabilities with Vertex AI‘s robust MLOps tooling creates a compelling solution for enterprises seeking to infuse AI into their business while maintaining control over where their workloads reside."
