How to Identify a 100% Perfect Pokémon in Pokémon GO

When you tap "Appraise" on a Pokémon‘s profile, your Team Leader will provide a hint about its IVs based on the number of stars shown:

• 0-49% = No stars
• 50-65% = 1 star ⭐
• 66-80% = 2 stars ⭐⭐
• 80-99% = 3 stars ⭐⭐⭐
• 100% = 3 stars + red background ⭐⭐⭐

The more stars, the higher that Pokémon‘s overall IV stats. 3 red stars indicates it‘s a perfect hundo!

Here‘s an example appraisal for a 100% Aerodactyl:

"Overall, your Aerodactyl simply amazes me. It can accomplish anything! Its stats exceed my calculations. It‘s incredible!"

If you want to get more precise, third-party apps like PokeGenie can calculate the exact IV combination down to the numbers. But for quick checking, the in-game appraisal stars are an easy indicator.

Why Do Perfect IVs Matter for Battling?

You might be wondering – why does anyone care about IVs anyway?

Having higher IVs results in slightly higher CP and battle performance:

• At the same level, a 100% Machamp will have more CP than a 50% Machamp
• In raid and PvP battles, the 100% IV Pokémon will deal more damage

However, it‘s not a massive difference – only around 5-10% stronger generally. Still, that small edge can matter in close raids and PvP matchups.

How Rare are Perfect IV Pokémon?

Now for the golden question – just how uncommon are hundos?

The base odds of catching a 100% IV Pokémon in the wild are approximately 1 in 4096. That‘s about a 0.02% chance…quite slim!

Certain encounter methods do boost the IV floors significantly:

• Raid/Egg/Research encounters have 10/10/10 (67%) minimum
• Lucky trades have 12/12/12 (82%) minimum
• Weather boost adds +5 to each IV (so min becomes 4/4/4)

But even with those boons, a perfect hundo is still uncommon. Here are some statistics:

• Of over 850,000 raid catches analyzed, only 0.16% were 100% IVs
• Out of 130,000 research reward encounters, 0.14% were hundos
• 1 in 450 species caught from eggs were hundos (analysis of over 500k hatches)

So while raids, eggs, and research make hundos more likely, they are still rare Finds! The chances of finding a wild one are even lower.

To put into perspective – a fellow PoGO player in my community has caught over 130,000 Pokémon and only encountered 212 hundos. That‘s a rate of about 1 in 615…insane luck!

Flexing Shundo Legendaries and Other Hundo Showboating

With hundos being so rare, it‘s no wonder that players love to show them off when they catch one!

• Shundo Deino or evolution

When someone in my local Discord catches a shundo or 100% meta-relevant Pokémon, it kicks off a chain of congratulations and envy from others. There‘s a definite sense of prestige that comes with owning perfect Pokémon.

However, with great bragging rights comes responsibility. Veteran players try to be mindful not to overtly flex their hundos around more casual players. A new Trainer catching their first high IV Pokémon is an exciting achievement for them, even if it‘s not objectively rare.
