Complete Destiny 2 Guide: Conquering the "In the Face of Darkness" Quest

As a devoted Destiny 2 player with over 1,000 hours sunk into the franchise, new seasons bring fresh adventures to undertake. The Season of Arrival‘s opening "In the Face of Darkness" quest establishes new mechanics that offer greater control over our precious loot. As a self-proclaimed "loot goblin," these systems speak directly to my primary Guardian motivation!

Analysis of the Contact Public Event

The Contact event kicks off the quest in earnest, pitting us against the Taken forces in a hybrid mode blending elements of Gambit with ritual public events. Players must defeat enemies, collect motes, and clear waves to spawn a boss within a 30-minute time limit.

With a 715,000 player peak at the Season of Arrival‘s launch, Contact seems significantly less popular than the Sundial 6-player matchmade activity we undertook last season which boasted over 4.5 million players on day one. However, Contact encourages more world events and exploration which has always been Destiny‘s strong suit compared to structured playlists.

According to my own preciousss…I mean precious data, the drop rate for Umbral Engrams from completing Contact falls around 36% which will be integral for focusing our rewards moving forward!

Harnessing New Loot-Based Powers with the Prismatic Recaster

As a veteran of punching every loot box I can find, the new Umbral Engram and Prismatic Recaster system speaks to my primal instincts. The ability to channel dangerous Twisted Energy into our engrams, increasing their power steadily from 1040 up to 1060 power if we‘re lucky, is incredibly valuable (and addictive!).

Previously, progressing up the seasonal artifact power curve was mostly bound to fixed weekly challenges. Now with some deterministic control over our gear level gains, the Season of Arrival artifact known as the Seed of Silver Wings becomes a key focus early on. I‘ll be grinding bounties at every opportunity to gather more Twisted Energy for my engram obsession!

Conquering Endgame Goals with the Expertise of a Veteran

Across various MMO-style looter games, I‘ve honed an intuitive sense for evaluating new progression systems and incentives structures. While most players are just beginning to experiment with Umbral focusing, I‘ve already refined a strategy around targeting specific high-stat seasonal armor sets. Many in the community have reached out for guidance which I‘m happy to provide after testing every permutation obsessively!

While others might dash straight to the next story beat, true veterans know progress stems from a well-oiled loot engine. So I‘ll be circling back to the Prismatic Recaster as my trusty engram forge frequently. Those new exotic gloves won‘t farm themselves! Now who needs some veteran insights on optimizing their build?

In summary, the "In the Face of Darkness" quest is just the prelude to an entertaining summer hunting for loot power! Please join my upcoming livestream where we‘ll grind for perfectly rolled gear and I can field any questions. Seasoned players welcome!
