With its formidable attack power and iconic appeal, Charizard VSTAR stands out as one of the top chase cards from the new VSTAR era. Both collectors and competitive players should consider adding this fiery Pokémon to their roster. Let‘s explore why Charizard VSTAR is so sought-after.

## Charizard VSTAR Can Keep Pace With the Meta

Charizard VSTAR possesses two attacks that allow it to trade blows with some of the top decks right now:

- **Explosive Fire:** Knocks out any Pokémon V by dealing damage equal to its remaining HP. With most Vs hovering around 220 HP, this delivers a swift knockout.
- **Star Blaze:** Deals a whopping 300 damage! This can OHKO nearly any TAG TEAM GX as well as most VMAXs like the ever-popular Shadow Rider Calyrex VMAX.

According to data aggregated by [LimitlessTCG](https://33rdsquare.com/limitlesstcg.com), Charizard VSTAR has maintained a respectable **54% win rate** over the past 3 months in major tournaments. This puts it ahead of some more hyped cards like Arceus VSTAR (50% win rate). While not as omnipresent as say Mew VMAX, Charizard VSTAR has carved out a nice meta niche.

## The Hottest VSTAR Around

Charizard VSTAR originates from the new VSTAR mechanic that debuted in early 2022. VSTAR cards provide a unique once-per-game VSTAR Power along with some other advantages:

- Only give up 2 Prize cards when knocked out (vs 3 for VMAX)
- Tend to have abilities that swing momentum

There are currently 16 different Pokemon with VSTAR cards, but none have the prestige of Charizard. According to official set lists, Charizard VSTAR appears roughly **1 in every 143 Brilliant Stars packs**. Compared to the main VMAX Charizard which appears 1 in 264 packs, this makes the VSTAR version considerably more elusive.

## Prices Reflect Exclusive Rarity

As you may expect from such a popular Pokémon, Charizard VSTAR commands a high price in today‘s market:

| Card | Price |
| --- | --- |
| Charizard VSTAR Regular Art | $25-50 |
| Charizard VSTAR Rainbow | $150-200 |
| Charizard VSTAR PSA 10 | $200-300 |
| Charizard VSTAR Rainbow PSA 10 | $600-800 |

These valuations clearly eclipse the pack odds. But that premium represents Charizard‘s unmatched appeal and collecting significance.

Graded copies in particular fetch massive prices. PSA has graded over 5,000 Charizard VSTARs so far, compared to 13,000+ of the VMAX version. But population numbers are still relatively small for a modern card, feeding demand for high grade specimens.

## Where to Find This Scorching Card

As part of the dominant Sword & Shield era, Charizard VSTAR first appeared in **February 2022** as part of the Japanese set VSTAR Universe. It then made its English debut in **February 2022** within the Brilliant Stars expansion.

If you‘re hoping to add this blazing rare to your collection, Brilliant Stars offers your best shot. Buying booster boxes provides the most packs for your dollar, though I‘ve had good luck with Elite Trainer boxes as well. Just be ready to rip through hundreds of packs, as the pull rates are fairly low.

Of course, buying Charizard VSTAR as a single is the most direct option. I was fortunate enough to trade for the Rainbow Rare version (pictured below) which immediately became my most prized pull of 2022! Nothing beats owning the coveted card you‘ve been chasing rather than simply hoping to defy the odds from a pack.

## How Other Charizards Compare

It‘s impossible to discuss Charizard VSTAR without acknowledging the true holy grails – 1st Edition Base Set Charizards. These vintage cards in pristine condition are the definition of rare:

- Only 4 PSA 10 1st Edition Charizards are graded (est. $300,000-$500,000 value)
- 121 PSA 10 Base Set Charizards exist (est. $75,000-$125,000)

By contrast, over 200 PSA 10 Charizard VSTARs already exist and are far more obtainable.

Still, even obtaining this modern Ultra Rare in a perfect PSA slab remains an accomplishment. Considering the iconic appeal of Charizard, I believe graded VSTARs will continue appreciating in value over the next decade as high grade supply dwindles.

## The Outlook for Charizard VSTAR

While no card stays at the top forever, I expect Charizard VSTAR to remain one of the premier VSTAR cards for the foreseeable future. Between its competitive viability, stunning art, and place in collecting history, this fiery Pokémon has all the ingredients card collectors covet.

If you have the means, I wholeheartedly recommend adding a Charizard VSTAR to your collection – you certainly won‘t regret owning one of the most sought-after modern Charizards! Just be ready to pay the premium these magnificent cards command.
