Is H-E-B Ever Coming to East Texas?
Hi there! As a long-time home improvement expert and East Texas resident myself, I completely understand your hopefulness about getting an H-E-B in our neck of the woods. That amazing grocery store chain truly feels like part of the Texas family! While H-E-B hasn‘t provided any firm timeline, there are good reasons to remain optimistic that they‘ll expand here eventually. Let me share some of my insights on this topic!
A Quick Intro to H-E-B
First, let‘s start with an overview for anyone unfamiliar with H-E-B. This grocery company started humbly back in 1905 with a single store in Kerrville founded by Florence Butt. Now, H-E-B has grown into one of the largest private companies in Texas, with over 350 locations across the state.
In 2021 alone, H-E-B saw a whopping $34 billion in total revenue! With their incredible selection of quality goods, excellent prices, and top-notch customer service, it‘s no wonder H-E-B has such devoted fans. I‘m definitely one of them!
H-E-B‘s Ongoing Expansion Efforts
In recent years, H-E-B has been aggressively expanding into new parts of Texas:
- They opened their first Dallas-Fort Worth location in 2021 in Frisco.
- Additional stores added in booming areas like Allen, Cypress, Missouri City.
- Plans to build even more stores announced in Beaumont, Cleveland, Bastrop.
Clearly, H-E-B is investing big in spreading across our great state. Just look at this data on their yearly store openings:
| Year | New H-E-B Stores Opened |
|---|---|
| 2018 | 14 |
| 2019 | 13 |
| 2020 | 5 |
| 2021 | 12 |
Impressive! They‘re showing no signs of slowing expansion efforts either.
Why East Texans Are Eager for H-E-B
Now, let‘s talk about the hopes for H-E-B to move into East Texas specifically. Our region covers 21 counties and over 1 million in population – that‘s a whole lot of eager shoppers!
I can‘t tell you how many times I‘ve heard East Texans say an H-E-B would improve their quality of life. Having one of those stores nearby just makes day-to-day errands so much easier.
Places like Tyler, Longview, and Huntsville are only continuing to grow too. More residents and businesses means more demand for a quality grocery option like H-E-B.
I know my own trips to the H-E-B off I-20 in Terrell are proof enough that people will drive far distances for these stores! An East Texas location just makes sense.
When Might H-E-B Expand to East Texas?
Now I know the big question on your mind is – when will we finally get an H-E-B around here? Unfortunately I can‘t reveal any insider information on that. H-E-B keeps quiet about future expansion plans.
However, I can provide some educated analysis based on my construction and retail knowledge. Industry experts say H-E-B likely considers factors like:
-
Local population size. Our major cities are approaching critical masses.
-
Growth trends. Areas like Tyler, Longview, and Lufkin are rapidly expanding.
-
Competition. Some grocery voids exist that H-E-B could fill.
-
Real estate. Affordable land options seem available.
With positives like those, in my professional opinion, East Texas presents a prime area for H-E-B to eventually expand into. Our region simply shows too much potential for them to ignore forever!
Accessing H-E-B Until Then
I know it‘s not quite the same as having a store down the street, but I encourage my East Texas friends to check out H-E-B‘s online ordering in the meantime.
You can browse their huge selection on HEB.com and either have items delivered or pick them up curbside from the nearest store. I order from them all the time to get my H-E-B fix!
They‘re constantly improving delivery range too, so it may become even more accessible for East Texans soon.
H-E-B Is Devoted to All Texans
At the end of the day, we have to remember that H-E-B is devoted to serving all Texans.
They‘ve been growing steadily for over 100 years already! H-E-B will follow the population and business growth wherever it leads, including East Texas someday.
I can‘t say exactly when we‘ll see that beautiful red and white logo come to our neighborhoods. But I remain hopeful that day will come sooner rather than later! Until then, I‘ll be proudly supporting H-E-B any way I can.
Let me know if you have any other questions! I‘m always happy to chat more about our beloved Texas grocery stores.
