The story of Miraak provides an important contrast – while the Dragonborn can use their powers for great evil, this is not their destiny as designed by Akatosh. Miraak‘s story is one of corruption, while the player Dragonborn is meant to follow the path of divinely mandated good.

The World Eater – Alduin

Miraak makes for an intimidating foe, but even he pales in comparison to Alduin, the powerful dragon prophesied to consume the world. Only the Dragonborn can stand against Alduin, fighting him first atop the Throat of the World and finally in the afterlife realm of Sovngarde itself.

The fact that the Dragonborn slays Alduin in the Nord realm of divine paradise shows again their connection to the gods. And by defeating this threat to all life in Skyrim, they fulfill their ultimate purpose gifted by Akatosh himself.

Divine Gifts vs Daedric Artifacts

Even armed with Daedric artifacts like the Mace of Molag Bal or Sanguine Rose, the Last Dragonborn wields greater power from their inborn dragon soul alone. There are debates among fans about whether the Dragonborn could defeat certain Daedric Princes like Mehrunes Dagon one-on-one.

While the idea of the Dragonborn battling and defeating gods may seem outlandish at first glance, their reality-bending shouts specifically make this an interesting possibility. Slow Time, ethereal body projection, calling down meteors – these are abilities that allow the Dragonborn to contend with divine beings.

And importantly, their power source – dragon souls – comes directly from Akatosh rather than Daedric artifact trickery. In my opinion, a fully powered Dragonborn stands a chance at holding their own or even defeating one of the weaker Princes like Peryite. Their demigod status against the true gods is worthy of debate.

Whatever choices you make in how to build your character, by the time you finish the main storyline you will have become archmage of the mages college, listener of the Dark Brotherhood, Nightingale of Nocturnal, and champion of countless other factions.

The Dragonborn exceeds any other hero in raw power and accolades. And this unmatched mortal capacity just reinforces the divine gift from Akatosh enabling such heights to be reached. The Dragonborn is the ultimate embodiment of divine potential in mortals.
