Modern Warfare 2019 – Still 100% Worth Playing in 2026

As a long-time Call of Duty fan and expert, I firmly believe that Modern Warfare 2019 remains an extremely worthwhile purchase and a top-tier entry in the franchise even now in 2024. With its stellar campaign, addictive multiplayer, co-op Spec Ops modes, and integration with the free-to-play Warzone, MW2019 packs tremendous value and is arguably the best recent Call of Duty available today – especially considering frequent discounts that make it more affordable.

Multiplayer – As Good As Ever

Modern Warfare‘s multiplayer is as lively and engaging in 2024 as it was at launch. According to ActivePlayer.io, over 530,000 players log into MW daily on PlayStation alone – massive for a 4 year old game!

I consistently find matches within seconds, a rarity for older titles. Playlists receive continual updates and new modes, proving long-term support. The recent launch of CoD: MWII has had essentially zero impact on MW2019‘s playercount or queue times.

With over 50 maps and a staggering variety of gameplay modes, there‘s endless content to enjoy. Hardpoint and Gunfight remain two of my personal favorites – both frantic, tactical game types that lead to extremely intense matches.

As a FPS veteran, the gunplay, movement, and mechanics feel super polished. Everything from aiming down sights to reloads feel snappy and responsive. Maps like Shoot House and Hackney Yard are expertly crafted for the signature Call of Duty style of action.

4 years later, MW‘s core multiplayer plays better than ever thanks to continual balancing and tuning by the developers. It‘s still arguably the best multiplayer experience in the franchise‘s history.

Campaign – A First-Class Cinematic Thrill Ride

Modern Warfare‘s single-player campaign ranks among the greatest in Call of Duty, with genuinely unforgettable missions like Going Dark and Clean House that place you directly into Hollywood-quality set pieces.

The photorealistic visuals, excellent acting performances, and thrilling sequences like escaping a collapsing building make MW‘s campaign an absolute must-play – even now. It serves as a masterclass in delivery cinematic FPS action.

Expert site IGN scored the campaign a 9.5/10, praising its "excellent moment-to-moment gameplay" and "incredibly diverse and lengthy single-player." After playing through multiple times, I wholly agree with this assessment.

At roughly 8 hours long, the campaign provides fantastic bang for your buck. Given most new AAA games clock in under 20 hours even for full-price $70 releases, MW‘s campaign still compares very favorably as a value proposition.

Spec Ops – An Underrated Co-Op Gem

While often overlooked, Modern Warfare‘s Spec Ops modes add even more great content on top of the stellar multiplayer and campaign. Missions let you team up and battle through objecitve-based PvE scenarios – a great change of pace from competitive modes.

Survival offers a particularly addictive co-op experience. Fighting off endless waves of intelligent enemies alongside friends leads to hours of enjoyment. The mode really rewards coordination and complementary loadout choices.

Spec Ops adds nice variety for players burnt out on straightforward multiplayer and looking to cooperate with others towards a common goal. The replayability is excellent given the modifiers that alter each playthrough.

Integration With Warzone

Owning the full Modern Warfare game unlocks bonuses and exclusives within the free-to-play Warzone such as XP tokens, weapon blueprints, Operator skins, and more. Progressing Modern Warfare multiplayer also levels up weapons for use in Warzone, a major incentive.

This integration extends Modern Warfare‘s lifespan by allowing players to bring over content into the ever-evolving Warzone. As new Warzone seasons release with new maps, strategies, and metas, owning Modern Warfare grants you perks unavailable to free players.

Frequent Sales Make It An Even Better Value

As an older game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare frequently goes on sale for generous discounts. It‘s easy to find the full game and all DLC packs 50% off or more during seasonal sales events.

At half the normal $60 price point, the amount of content on offer makes MW2019 an incredible value proposition and easy recommend to all shooter fans. Taking advantage of a discounted sale makes the package even more appealing.

Across its various modes, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019 still delivers a top-tier first person shooter experience that totally holds up now in 2024.
