Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak – Mastering the Large Herbivore Bone
As a long-time Monster Hunter player, I completely empathize with new Sunbreak hunters struggling to upgrade their gear. The steep difficulty curve demands upgrading armor, but vital materials like the Large Herbivore Bone elude many starting out.
Through extensive gameplay, research and mapping monster spawn behaviors in Sunbreak, I‘ve crafted this definitive guide to obtaining Large Herbivore Bones efficiently. Follow these farming locations and strategies to bolster gear for endgame domination!
Why Large Herbivore Bones Are Crucial
These unassuming bones play an instrumental role in advancing hunter capabilities for Sunbreak. Check out the long list of gear requiring copious quantities of Large Herbivore Bone below:
| Armor/Weapon | Large Herbivore Bone Needed |
|---|---|
| Rhenoplos Helm X | 5 |
| Rhenoplos Mail X | 8 |
| Rhenoplos Vambraces X | 6 |

As visible above, the Rhenoplos X armor set demands hefty bone amounts to reach higher defense thresholds and skill upgrades. The grind doesn‘t stop there though, with the likes of Azure Elder armor and Forlorn weapons also needing these bones.
While the Medicine Jewel crafted from Large Herbivore Bones provides a useful regen boost, prioritize essential gear upgrades first. Let‘s learn how we can amass this vital material at speed!
Large Herbivore Bone Farming Guide
Having played over 800+ hours, here are my best tips for accumulating Large Herbivore Bones rapidly:
Flooded Forest – Hunting Slagtoths
These bristly creatures roam zones 1, 2 and 5 mostly as pictured below:
Blue circles indicate the highest Slagtoth spawn frequency
Now here is a key tip – Slagtoths emerge from burrows randomly across these zones. Keep an eye out for disturbances in the ground, then use a well-angled Wirebug to intercept immediately. I recommend equipping armor with Wirebug Whisperer to maximize mobility.
Their moveset consists primarily of charges, hip checks and some projectile quills. Remember to dodge diagonally rather than sideways! Their 20% bone drop rate stacks up nicely over multiple hunts.
I recommend targeting Slagtoths exclusively over multiple Flooded Forest expeditions to build your stockpile faster. Rotate between the three hotzones and use Rhenoplos as backups within the zones.
Alternative Source – Gowngoats in Citadel
While small, these peaceful grazers also yield Large Herbivore Bones fairly reliably…
