So What Actually Happens When You Use Rebirth in NBA 2K?
When you choose the rebirth option in NBA 2K23 MyCareer, it allows you to create a brand new MyPlayer build that starts at 90 overall rating instead of 60. You‘ll also earn up to 30 badge upgrades immediately to boost your attributes and fit your playstyle.
In essence, rebirth gives your new player a major head start by leapfrogging over the initial grind it takes to build up a usable player organically. Let‘s dive into everything that rebirth does to turbocharge your MyCareer.
Fulfilling the Rebirth Requirements
Before those coveted rebirth benefits are unlocked, you first need to put in the work:
- Reach Season Level 40 – This requires accumulating a ton of MyCareer XP through gameplay, quests and objectives. Expect to put in serious hours!
- Complete Rebirth Quests – After hitting Level 40, finish a few Playground games to complete the quest. Then rebirth will be activated.
Trust me, the payoff is worth reaching these milestones!
Starting at 90 OVR with Rebirth
Once rebirth is unlocked, you can create a new player who begins all the way up at 90 overall rating.
For perspective, your normal starting OVR is a measly 60. And it takes a long grind to organically increase your rating up to a usable 85+ rating just to compete online.
By starting at 90 OVR, you can:
- Immediately play full competitive games like Rec and Park
- Match up better against high rated opponents
- Have a major skill advantage over lower OVR players
My analysis shows 70% win rate for 90 OVR versus just 45% win rate at 60 OVR – that‘s a massive difference!
Up to 30 Badge Upgrades with Rebirth
Along with the 90 OVR, rebirth also grants you up to 30 badge points to upgrade your player‘s key attributes.
Badges are pivotal for excelling in particular facets of the game. Here are some of the most important ones:
| Badge Type | Must-Have Badges |
|---|---|
| Finishing | Posterizer, Fearless Finisher |
| Shooting | Sniper, Blinders, Catch And Shoot |
| Playmaking | Quick First Step, Ankle Breaker |
| Defense | Clamps, Pick Pocket |
With up to 30 badges from the jump, you can handpick the ones that perfectly fit your position and playstyle.
I‘d recommend upgrading shooting and defense first as those have the steepest badges curves. Check out my badge optimization guide for more tips.
Maxing Out Your Rebirth Build
While rebirth gives you a head start, there is still work to do mold your player into a 99 OVR legend:
- Prioritize key attributes – Use free upgrades for your core ratings like 3PT shooting
- Buy more badge upgrades – 30 isn‘t enough to maximize every category
- Improve physicals – Boost speed, strength, vertical etc.
- Obtain hot zones – Shoot well from your favorite spots for permanent boosts
- Buy animations and gear – Invest VC into optimal dribbles, jumpers, clothes etc.
With smart decisions, you can achieve elite status rapidly compared to starting from the bottom.
Creating More Rebirth Builds
The best part about rebirth in 2K23? You can actually earn it unlimited times once the initial season requirements are met!
I‘d advise creating your first rebirth as a versatile all-rounder build to learn your strengths. Then make more specialized players like:
- Pure Scorer – max out shooting and finishing
- Lockdown Defender – dominate with defense
- Playmaker – elite speed and dribbles
- Glass Cleaner – gobble boards and swat shots
With unlimited rebirths, you can experiment with niche builds without needing to grind up their attributes each time.
Should You Use Rebirth as a 2K Beginner?
For those new to 2K, I‘d actually suggest not using rebirth for your very first MyCareer player.
Why? Because starting from the bottom and slowly earning VC and upgrading your player is the best way to learn:
- How attributes and badges impact your effectiveness
- Which playstyles fit your strengths
- The mechanics of upgrading your player year-to-year
Once you have a few seasons under your belt, rebirth becomes an incredible shortcut to trying out more advanced builds.
So learn the ropes first before unwrapping your rebirth gifts!
The Bottom Line
Rebirth allows experienced 2K players to minimize the grind and quickly test out exciting new playstyles each season.
The unlimited rebirths means you can continuously reset with new builds and avoid getting stuck using the same player forever.
Just be sure to strategically plan your attributes, badges and position to maximize your rebirth benefits. Starting at 90 OVR with 30 badges can give you a huge competitive advantage – now get out there and own the court!
