Sons Of The Forest Melee Weapons Locations
You must look for a few melee weapons in Sons of the Forest Weapon Locations. Each has its specific uses and stats based on speed and damage. Some of them have to be crafted using materials. In this section, we’ll go over all the details regarding where to find them in the game.
Axe
The Tactical Axe is arguably essential for surviving on the Sons of the Forest island. It’s great for defending yourself against enemies and chopping down trees. It can be found at the beginning of your game inside the Emergency Pack.
But you should also begin your search for the Modern Axe once you’re ready, as it’s much faster at chopping down trees and inflicts more damage to enemies.
To find the Modern Axe, follow the road towards the helicopter crash site marked on the map. You’ll find a gap between the tracks leading to a small camp. Inside one of the tents at this camp, you‘ll find the Modern Axe lying close to a dead body.
Crafted Spear
A Crafted Spear is also a convenient weapon to use in combat. You can prepare a Crafted Spear using only a few materials and don’t need to look around the map for those materials.
To craft a spear, you need to find yourselves some sticks, which can be found on the beach or in the forest, or by chopping down trees. You also need duct tape, which can be found in small containers scattered around the spawn location.
Once you have these materials, open your Inventory Mat and combine 1x Duct Tape, 2x Sticks, and the Knife to craft your spear.
Machete
The Machete is one of the better weapons in the game for melee combat. It’s effective because of its fast speed and inflicts a decent amount of damage on enemies.
To reach the Machete, follow the beach‘s coastline on the map’s Northside. In this area, you‘ll come across some dead whales and a beach camp. Search the tents at this camp to find the Machete inside one of the dinghy boats.
Stun Baton
Stun Baton is another helpful weapon you can get early in the game. If you hold down the attack button, you’ll activate an electric shock that temporarily stuns your enemy. You can use this opportunity to either run away or finish them off.
The Stun Baton is located near the stream marked on the map. Follow the sound of the water until you reach a small waterfall. You’ll see the Stun Baton between a pile of skulls at the waterfall‘s base.
Chainsaw
Getting the Chainsaw requires you to first obtain the VIP key card and the Maintenance key card.
Once you have them, head to the cave marked on the map. Enter the cave and explore the bunker within. You’ll come across a door that requires the Maintenance key card to open. Go left from here into the Gym area and towards the Lobby.
Walk upstairs in the Lobby and use the VIP key card to open the second door. Follow this hallway to the Cinema room to find the Chainsaw inside a corpse sitting in one of the chairs.
Katana
The Katana is considered the best melee weapon in the game. Although getting it can be tricky, it‘s worth the effort.
First, enter the cave marked on the map until you find a hole that leads down into a bunker. Use the Maintenance key card to enter. After going down some stairs, open the second door you come across.
Explore this first bunker level if you wish, then continue downstairs to the second level. On the right side of this level is a room with the Katana on a stand for you to take.
Sons Of The Forest Ranged Weapon Locations
Next we‘ll cover the ranged weapon locations in Sons of the Forest.
Slingshot
The Slingshot is easy to use for picking at enemies from a distance. Ammunition in the form of rocks is scattered all over the island.
To find it, go to the cave entrance marked on the map. Look for dead bodies mounted on spikes nearby. The Slingshot can be looted from one of these corpse‘s inventory.
Crafted Bow
With ammo being scarce, the Crafted Bow is a great alternative to guns for hitting enemies from range.
To craft it, you need 2x Sticks, 4x Feathers, and 1 Rope combined together. Sticks and feathers are common, but rope can be harder to find. Check in caves and along the coastline for rope spawns.
Once crafted, you’ll also need Arrows to use with the bow. These are crafted from 2x Sticks, 4x Stones, and 2x Feathers.
Crossbow
The Crossbow has powerful bolts that can be reused after firing, but has a slow reload time. It‘s found inside a bunker marked on the map.
Use the Maintenance key card to enter the bunker and follow the path to the Kitchen. Unlock the next door, which leads to a Hydroponic Center holding the Crossbow and some bolts next to a corpse.
Compound Bow
This bow is the most powerful of its type, capable of one-shot killing enemies with a headshot. It‘s located inside a bunker southwest of the plane crash site.
You’ll need a Shovel to dig out the bunker door first. Once inside, check the bathroom to find a corpse in the bathtub holding the Compound Bow.
Pistol
The 9mm Pistol is unmatched in terms of range damage by most other gun options. Surviving the swim there, it can be found on a small raft west of the island.
Alternatively, explore the green point cave near the rear lake until you discover a section requiring the Maintenance key card to proceed. The Pistol spawns in this new area.
Revolver
While less ammo capacity than the Pistol, the Revolver rivals its damage potential at range. You‘ll need to dig up the bunker entrance marked on the map to get inside.
Once in the bunker, check the first room you come across to find a dead worker and the Revolver laying next to his body.
Shotgun
The Shotgun is hands down the most devastating weapon for raw damage. It can one-shot most enemies before they ever reach you.
One spawn location is the abandoned camp on the north beach. Check inside the tents to hopefully find the Shotgun.
Alternatively, dig up the grave marked on the map using a Shovel. Inside the soldier‘s coffin lies another Shotgun for the taking.
Other Sons Of The Forest Weapon Locations
Aside from standard weapons, Sons of the Forest also has throwable explosives and oddities to discover.
Grenades
While scarce early on, Grenades can blast groups of enemies apart in seconds. They occasionally spawn in weapon lockers, but an easy early source is the weapon safe on the west beach next to a corpse.
Molotov Cocktail
These firebombs are great for escaping crowds or softening up tough foes. Craft one with 1x Cloth and 1x Alcohol. Ignite it with your Lighter before tossing at the enemy.
Time Bomb
Acting as a delayed grenade, carefully place Time Bombs in strategic locations to ambush groups when they wander by. Expensive to build but worth it for the explosive results.
Putter
Mostly just good for playing golf, the Putter can still bash heads in a pinch. Find it in places like the Katana bunker.
Guitar
More of a prop than weapon, the Guitar still functions for bashing skulls Musically! Retrieve one from the Chainsaw movie theater bunker.
