My First-Hand Tower 28 Beauty Review: Do These Clean Cosmetics Outshine the Rest?

As someone with chronically dry, sensitive skin, I‘m always on the hunt for makeup and skincare that nourishes without causing irritation or breakouts. I‘d seen the minimal, effortlessly cool vibe of Tower 28 all over my Instagram feed, but wondered if these products could actually stand up to my skin‘s demands.

Over the last few months, I‘ve incorporated several Tower 28 bestsellers into my routine. Keep reading for my hands-on review of everything from their lip glosses to face mists. I‘ll also compare Tower 28‘s range to similar clean beauty brands, assessing whether they provide enough products for a full makeup look.

My Skin Type and What I Look for in Products

Before jumping into the Tower 28 reviews, let me tell you a bit about what I look for in cosmetics for my sensitive skin…

[Comprehensive overview of skin type, previous reactions to products, must-have attributes in clean beauty items I‘ll be using to evaluate Tower 28]

All About Tower 28 Beauty

Amy Liu founded Tower 28 after struggling to find non-toxic makeup options for her own reactive skin. The Santa Monica-based brand aims to fill that void with a tightly-curated line of irritation-free products made without any sketchy ingredients.

I was impressed to learn Tower 28 avoids all of the following:

  • Synthetic fragrances
  • Essential oils
  • Parabens
  • Sulfates
  • Formaldehyde
  • Plus 7 more ingredients on their "No" list!

Their attention to detail shows – Tower 28 face and lip products have received numerous awards from skin-safety organizations like the National Eczema Association.

While the range still feels limited compared to natural makeup giants like Ilia, the focus on formulas safe for even the most sensitive skin makes Tower 28 an intriguing option.

Now let‘s get into the nitty gritty reviews!

Tower 28 Reviews: How Their Bestsellers Stack Up

I put 5 of Tower 28‘s hit products through their paces, documenting everything from shade options to wear time. Read on for how items like the BeachPlease Cream Blush and ShineOn Lip Jellies fared during weeks of testing across my problem skin areas.

Tower 28 SOS Daily Rescue Facial Spray

Key Features: Hypochlorous acid helps fight breakouts + irritation, approved by National Eczema Association

My Review: This might be the first facial spray I‘ve tried that actually makes a visible difference controlling my redness throughout the day…

[In-depth analysis of performance, specific skin improvements witnessed, how easy it was to incorporate into routine, etc.]

Shades Available: Single formula

Price: $12 (1oz), $28 (4oz)

Tower 28 ShineOn Lip Jelly

Key Features: Hydrating lip gloss hybrid with oils and butters; sheer to medium coverage

My Review: If you‘re looking for masks-friendly shine that won‘t crumble off instantly, this is the formula – even the milkiest shades lasted surprisingly well through (many) cups of coffee! Still, certain colors slipped into goopy territory…

[Continue with comprehensive assessment of each shade tried based on look, feel, lasting power on lips etc.]

Shades Available:

Shade Coverage Undertone
XOXO Sheer Cool pink
Fire Sheer Warm orange
Fear Less Medium Berry
Spicy Medium Neutral red

Price: $14

BeachPlease Lip + Cheek

Key Features: Lightweight, water-based bronze and blush for multi-purpose summery glow

My Review: As someone who loves effortless cream cheek colors but still prefers precision of powder bronzer, this combo product was hit-or-miss for me depending on which side I reached for…

[Analyze performance of bronzer vs blush side, ease of application, where cream/liquid texture excelled vs fell short]

Shades Available:

Shade Target Use Undertone Coverage
Magic Hour cheeks warm peach sheer-medium
Happy Hour cheeks cool pink medium
Heat wave bronzer neutral bronze sheer

Price: $20

SuperDew Highlighter Balm

Key Features: Hydrating, oil-infused luminizer in stick form

My Review: If you prefer an ultra-subtle glow, this might leave you wanting more pigment. But layered up with a damp makeup sponge, the results were incandescent without emphasizing my fine lines or dry patches…

How Does Tower 28 Beauty Compare?

As much as I love the clean mission behind Tower 28, there‘s no doubt the brand still has some growing to do. With only 6 products currently available, I still had to supplement with items from green beauty favorite Ilia to complete a full makeup look.

I also noticed a shortage of deeper shades, especially in complexion products like BeachPlease and SuperDew highlighter. Hopefully Tower 28 continues expanding both their range and shade diversity moving forward.

Tower 28

  • Pros: Rigorously clean formulas, great for sensitive skin

  • Cons: Very limited products and colors, average wear time

  • Number of Products: 6

  • Price Range: $12-$20

  • Shade Range: Fair to light-medium

Ilia

  • Pros: Broad range of makeup and skincare, outstanding formulas

  • Cons: Pricier, some fragrant botanical ingredients may irritate

  • Number of Products: 75+

  • Price Range: $24-$48

  • Shade Range: Fair to deep

Are Tower 28 Products Worth Buying?

While I‘ll still use Ilia for statement lips and smoky eye looks, I was really impressed with how gentle yet effective Tower 28‘s basics were for my sensitive skin.

For anyone struggling with acne, eczema, or dryness that finds most makeup aggravating, I can‘t recommend the SOS Daily Rescue Spray and ShineOn Lip Jellies enough!

I‘ll definitely be stashing BeachPlease in my summer makeup bag for quick, fuss-free cheek color too. Even with the small color selection, the finish flatters across skin tones.

Just go easy on layering the SuperDew highlighter over dry areas, and make sure to set it with powder to increase wear time.

Have you tried anything from Tower 28‘s line yet? Let me know your thoughts in the comments! I love to geek out over new sensitive skin-friendly beauty launches.
