What is Katie George Doing Now? A Look at the Multi-Sport Star‘s Thriving Career

Katie George has made a name for herself as a multi-sport athlete, excelling in both basketball and volleyball at the collegiate and professional levels. After graduating from the University of Louisville in 2015 with a degree in exercise science, she has gone on to represent the United States in international volleyball competitions, pursue modeling and broadcasting opportunities, and support various charitable foundations. So what exactly is Katie George up to now? Here‘s an in-depth look at her accomplishments and what she‘s currently focused on:

Dominating the Hardwood and the Court with Louisville Basketball and Volleyball

George began her athletic career playing basketball for the Louisville Cardinals from 2011-2015. She was a standout player, named to the 2019-20 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Freshman Team and voted as the American Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 2020. Some key career statistics:

  • Scored 1,662 total points for Louisville basketball
  • Shot 84% from the free throw line
  • Averaged 14.6 points and 3.2 assists per game as a senior
  • Led Louisville to 4 NCAA Tournament appearances and 2 Sweet Sixteen runs

But George wasn‘t done after basketball. She joined the Louisville volleyball team for her senior year in 2015, earning All-ACC honors three times in just four seasons. She ranked #1 in the ACC for digs per set with 4.41 as a senior and had a hitting percentage of .298. Her dual athletic success was unprecedented – George is still the only Louisville athlete to letter in both basketball and volleyball.

As George told ESPN, "Playing two sports in college was incredibly rewarding. I loved the practices, the games, and competing alongside my teammates. The time management skills I learned have also served me well in life after college."

Representing the Red, White and Blue with USA Volleyball

After completing her career as a two-sport star at Louisville, George joined the U.S. Women‘s National Volleyball Team program in 2021. She quickly emerged as a defensive specialist and libero for Team USA, competing internationally in major tournaments like the FIVB Volleyball Nations League.

In 2022, George played a key role in helping the U.S. squad capture the bronze medal at the Pan American Cup in Peru. She racked up 70 digs throughout the tournament and averaged 2.74 digs per set. Her tenacious defense also contributed to the USA‘s gold medal win at the 2022 Pacific Rim Championship.

As her coach Karch Kiraly noted, “Katie’s perseverance and hunger for the ball is unmatched. Her digs have saved countless rallies and given us so many scoring opportunities.”

When training for USA Volleyball, George follows an intense regimen including weight lifting, conditioning, film study, and skills practice up to twice a day. But the hard work has paid off, as she continues to be an integral part of the national team with the 2024 Olympics on the horizon.

Modeling and Appearing on Television

When she‘s not on the court repping USA Volleyball, George has been actively modeling and making television appearances. She is signed with the prestigious Wilhelmina Models agency and has modeled for brands like Nike, Athleta, and Under Armour. Her modeling has been featured in Sports Illustrated, ESPN Magazine, and Women‘s Health.

George has also started dipping her toes into broadcasting. She serves as a host on the "Pro Pick‘em Show" for AT&T SportsNet Cincinnati and has made additional TV appearances analyzing sports on shows like Forbes Sports Money.

"I really enjoy connecting with fans through television and modeling. Being able to share my sports knowledge while also highlighting my other passions has been very fulfilling," George told Today Show Australia during an interview this year.

Supporting Charitable Causes

Giving back to the community has always been important to George. She has been involved with organizations like the Cut Out Cancer Foundation, which provides financial assistance to cancer patients. She also donates to the Kids Kicking Cancer program, which uses martial arts techniques to help children cope with their cancer treatments.

"My aunt battled cancer when I was younger. So these cancer-focused charities really hit home," George said.

George volunteers her time to coach young female volleyball athletes at camps and clinics as well. She enjoys mentoring the next generation of players and passing on what she‘s learned from her esteemed athletic career. Fans can likely expect George‘s philanthropy efforts to continue growing in the years ahead.

Settling Down with Former Louisville Basketball Player Richard Pitino

On the personal front, George tied the knot with former Louisville basketball manager Richard Pitino in 2015. The two originally met while attending the university together. After marrying, they settled down in Georgia where Richard coached the Georgia Tech Men‘s Basketball team from 2020-2022.

Richard and Katie now have two children together – a daughter named Ava (age 3) and a son named Jack (age 1). While George maintains a hectic schedule with volleyball and her other endeavors, she always makes time for her family.

"Being a mom is my favorite role in life. We love family trips, playing in the backyard, and volunteering together," said George.

Passing on Her Love of Sports and Competition

Given her immense success and talent in basketball and volleyball, George is passionate about advancing women‘s sports and serving as a role model.

"I want to inspire young girls to play whatever sport lights them up. Seeing more female athletes on the big stage is so empowering," said George.

She volunteers at girls volleyball and basketball camps, speaks at schools, and attends community events to encourage female participation in athletics. George also advocates for equitable coverage of women‘s sports in the media and fair athlete pay.

"We‘ve come a long way, but still have further to go to achieve equality for women in sports. I‘ll continue using my platform to promote this important cause," she said.

What‘s Next After the 2024 Paris Olympics?

With the 2024 Paris Olympics on the horizon, George will be striving to make the US squad and compete for gold at the upcoming Summer Games. She aims to bring home a medal in what would be the pinnacle achievement thus far of her decorated athletic career.

Looking beyond Paris, George hopes to play at least another Olympic cycle and retire from volleyball around age 30. From there, she will devote more time to broadcasting, modeling, and philanthropic endeavors. She also plans to start a family volleyball club and training program.

"I want to stay closely involved with sports – playing, commentating, coaching, you name it," shared George. "After I‘m done competing, training the next generation will be my passion."

At just 25 years old, George has already packed several lifetimes worth of athletic and career achievements under her belt. But with her relentless work ethic and competitive drive, fans can count on seeing this multi-sport dynamo continue to make her mark for years to come.
