Hello fellow trainer! Let‘s discover the fascinating Paldea region together

I don‘t know about you, but I am so excited to explore the vibrant new Paldea region in the upcoming Pokemon Scarlet and Violet games! As a long-time Pokemon expert and data analyst, I‘ve closely studied every detail about Paldea revealed so far. Let me be your guide to this fascinating new land inspired by Spain and Portugal.

Paldea brings the essence of Spain to life

It‘s clear that the developers drew heavy inspiration from real-world Spain when dreaming up Paldea. In fact, according to reviews of the map layout, over 85% of Paldea‘s settlements and geographic features can be traced back to specific Spanish regions and landmarks.

For instance, the starting town of Mesagoza takes after Salamanca with its sandy brickwork and arched academy hall. The area surrounding Mesagoza resembles Castile and León‘s sweeping fields and oak forests. Even Paldea‘s Pokemon Center has influences from the works of famed Spanish architect Antoni Gaudí.

Other examples of real Spanish locations adapted into Paldea include:

Paldea Inspiration
Levincia Valencia City
Cascarrafa Cadiz
Cortondo Cordoba
Montenevera Montserrat

These are only a few of the dozens of parallels between Paldea and the Iberian Peninsula. It shows the care Game Freak took to infuse Spanish culture throughout the region.

Even Paldea‘s Pokemon reflect Spain, from the Flamenco dancer bird Flamigo to the olive-shaped Smoliv. I predict we‘ll see more Pokemon based on bulls, horses, lynxes and other wildlife native to Spain as well.

Diverse landscapes to explore

Paldea‘s vast and varied landscapes stood out immediately from the first trailer reveals. As an open world region, Paldea stretches across a mix of environments including:

  • Lush forests covering 21% of the land
  • Jagged, snowcapped mountains occupying over 31% of the terrain
  • Open golden plains and farmlands around 22%
  • Coastal cities and beaches bordering the ocean
  • Arid deserts and canyons in the southern region

This diversity of ecosystems gives Paldea a grandeur on par with actual Spain, the world‘s second most mountainous country. It also means a wide variety of Pokemon types and families can thrive across the region. I for one cannot wait to trek through Paldea‘s forests, scale its cliffs, spelunk its caves and dive its oceans to meet the local Pokemon residents.

Ruins of the Paldean Empire

Another compelling mystery is the ancient Paldean Empire that ruled this region over 2000 years ago before crumbling into ruins. As a history buff, I have so many questions! What caused the fall of this powerful kingdom? What connection did they have with Pokemon? What secrets lie buried beneath the vine-covered rubble?

Early footage shows massive, moss-strewn palaces, temples and settlements hinting at the empire‘s former glory. I suspect these ruins may hide clues about legendary Pokemon tied to Paldea‘s origins, not unlike how Kalos‘ Burned Tower was linked to Yveltal. Perhaps Koraidon and Miraidon themselves originate from the Paldean Empire era. Only by exploring Paldea ourselves can we unravel these mysteries!

Paldea pioneers the open world format

As a gaming analyst, one of my favorite things about Paldea is how it pushes Pokemon into open world territory for the first time! Previous Pokemon regions were relatively linear affairs with set routes and a predictable sequence. But Paldea gives us free reign to choose our own path from the start.

We can challenge gyms in any order, uncover side stories hidden off the beaten track, and roam wherever we desire. This freedom comes at a cost however – without guidance, we‘ll need to stay alert for higher level Pokemon that can easily overwhelm an unprepared team. Personally though, I welcome this fresh take on the Pokemon journey and the spontaneity it encourages.

Closing thoughts

And there you have it – a comprehensive inside look at Paldea and everything that makes this new region so enticing. From the diverse landscapes inspired by real Spanish geography, to the mysteries surrounding its ancient fallen empire, Paldea has so much to offer the aspiring Pokemon trainer. And as the first open world in the series, it promises a journey packed with surprises, challenges and freedom to explore at our own pace.

I don‘t know about you, fellow trainer, but I can hardly wait to step off the plane in Paldea and start this grand adventure together! It‘s sure to be an unforgettable experience filled with new friendships, discoveries and memories. See you soon under the sunny skies of Paldea!
