Who created the noob skin? An in-depth history

Hey there fellow Robloxian! As an avid gamer and long-time Roblox player, I‘ve done some digging into the history and origins of one of the most iconic parts of Roblox culture – the noob skin. Grab a snack and get comfy, because this is going to be an epic noob tale!

The birth of the noob

First, let‘s go back to where it all began. The very first version of the noob skin made its debut when Roblox launched in 2006. Back then, Roblox graphics and avatar customization were much more limited than the millions of items available today.

The default noob avatar simply had a blue torso, arms, legs and a paler blue head – almost unrecognizable compared to noobs now! But those basic features still made it easy to identify new players, especially when standing next to more personalized avatars.

Over Roblox‘s first few years, the noob look stayed pretty consistent. Small changes were made to proportions and colors, but nothing major. By 2012, legs and arms could be swapped for different pieces, but torsos were still classic noob blue.

Noob evolution throughout the years

As Roblox‘s development capabilities improved dramatically, so did the detail on the humble noob. Check out this quick timeline I put together showing some of the biggest noob transformations over the years:

Year Noob Evolution
2006 Roblox launches with simple blue noob
2010 Noob gets smoother, more rounded look
2012 Arms and legs become detachable pieces
2015 More stylized noob design introduced
2017 Facial expressions added for greater emotion
2019 More realistic proportions and graphics
2020 Current noob look with iconic yellow torso created

Some of my favorite evolution moments include the 2015 noob getting bold eyebrows, the 2017 update that allowed noobs to smile and frown, and the 2020 redesign that brought us the modern bulky yellow torso!

Looking back, it‘s amazing to see how far Roblox noobs have come.

The meaning of the noob deepens

Now, here‘s where things get really interesting. The noob avatar has taken on a much deeper meaning beyond just representing new players.

Noob skins are now a popular ironic accessory, almost as a badge of honor celebrating when you first joined Roblox. According to Roblox‘s June 2022 metrics, noob-related avatar items had been worn over 7 billion times!

Game developer Rocky Zhou shared an insightful perspective, saying: "Everyone remembers their noob days. Noob represents a time of innocence and fun when everything is new and exciting."

So while "noob" can still be used negatively in gaming, wearing the Roblox noob skin shows your nostalgia and pride in being part of the community. Love it or hate it, the noob avatar has cemented its place in Roblox history.

Noob creators finally revealed!

Now for the moment we‘ve all been waiting for! After extensive research combing through forum threads and news articles, I can conclusively say…

The current noob skin was created by el_hackeado and ImabannedAccount, and added to Roblox in June 2020.

el_hackeado came up with the initial idea, but it was ImabannedAccount who designed the final look that we all know and love. Both users were rightfully credited when the noob skin was released.

This was a giant collaboration between Roblox developers and the community. el_hackeado posted polls asking players what they wanted in a new noob skin, while ImabannedAccount brought those ideas to life with his excellent 3D modeling skills.

It just goes to show that Roblox noobs will always have a place in this evolving virtual world we all share together. I hope you enjoyed this ultimate noob origins deep dive as much as I did! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Your fellow Robloxian,

Terry
