"In 39 years, the God of Destruction will engage in a fearsome battle with a mighty opponent. This opponent, with blue eyes, will challenge the God of Destruction by becoming a ‘Super Saiyan God‘."

This set in motion a 39-year waiting period for the prophecy to come true. Once the fated day arrived, the Oracle Fish dutifully woke Beerus as foretold. Still groggy, Beerus set out to find this "Super Saiyan God" and confront him, not knowing it would be Goku who underwent the divine transformation.

But this cycle of destruction eventually bores and exhausts Beerus. He loses passion for battle and creation no longer interests him. So, he sleeps…sometimes for decades. This lets life reemerge.

For me, this explains Beerus‘ motives. The prophecy gave him a deadline for awakening, but he likely would have slept even longer without it. He retreated to slumber out of apathy and weariness, allowing creation to generate something new.

This suggests Beerus allowed himself to sleep mostly out of depression and boredom due to a lack of worthy opponents. The Oracle Fish‘s prophecy renewed his excitement by promising a foe who could push him to his limits – exactly what Beerus craved after 39 years of inactivity.
