Can you get the HSW upgrade on PS4 GTA?
GTA Online recently introduced a new series of powerful vehicle upgrades called Hao‘s Special Works (HSW) upgrades. These performance tweaks are exclusive to the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of GTA Online, taking advantage of the new hardware to make vehicles much faster than ever before. But can PS4 players also unlock HSW upgrades?
Unfortunately, the HSW performance upgrades are not available on the PS4 and Xbox One versions of GTA Online. Rockstar designed these new high-speed upgrades specifically for the more powerful PS5 and Series X|S, which allow for faster processing and loading times that can handle the increased vehicle speeds.
What are HSW Upgrades and How Do You Unlock Them?
HSW upgrades are a set of performance modifications unlocked in the GTA Online Los Santos Tuners update that push vehicles to their absolute limit. According to Rockstar, HSW upgrades can increase top speeds by 23% and improve lap times by up to 26%.
To unlock HSW upgrades, PS5/Series X players must receive a call from legendary modder Hao. He invites you to complete a Time Trial in a specially modded Karin S95. Upon completing the time trial, you gain access to Hao‘s Special Works inside the LS Car Meet.
Here, for a price, Hao can upgrade select vehicles with various HSW performance mods like turbo tuning, lowered suspensions, and more. Popular HSW cars include the Grotti Turismo Classic, Benefactor Stirling GT, and Bravado Banshee.
HSW Cars vs Fastest PS4 Cars
To understand the performance gap between HSW vehicles and the fastest GTA Online cars on PS4, let‘s compare some top speeds:
- Vigero ZX (HSW) – 157 mph
- Pariah (PS4) – 136 mph
- Deveste Eight (HSW) – 155 mph
- Emerus (PS4) – 135 mph
As you can see, HSW cars leave even the fastest PS4 supercars in the dust with top speeds exceeding 150 mph. You won‘t find anything close on old-gen GTA Online.
Modding Limitations on PS4
Unlike PC, where users can mod in new vehicles, maps, and mechanics, the PS4 version of GTA has strict limitations enforced by Sony. Extensive modding like adding HSW upgrades is simply not possible on PS4.
Some limited script mods may work on jailbroken PS4 systems, but nothing near PC modding. Overall, PS4 users cannot expect access to new content like HSW unless officially added by Rockstar.
Options for PS4 Players
For PS4 owners eager to try out HSW cars, here are your options:
-
Upgrade to PS5 – The only way to directly access HSW upgrades is moving to the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S.
-
Wait for Standalone Release – Rockstar has announced a standalone GTA Online release coming in March 2022. It will include HSW upgrades and be available on PS5/Series X|S.
-
Maximize Current Vehicles – Use available upgrades like turbo tuning and EMS upgrades to optimize speed on current PS4 vehicles.
Upgrading hardware is the only sure way for PS4 players to enjoy these powerful HSW vehicle upgrades firsthand in GTA Online. Otherwise, maximizing current ride performance or waiting for the standalone re-release are your best options.
