Crisis Core Reunion: Ranking the Top Materia for Domination
As a hardcore Final Fantasy fan whose played them all, I live for finding the most powerful abilities and customizing builds. In Crisis Core Reunion, that means mastering Materia fusion and setups. I‘ve logged over 200 hours exploring materia combinations, and compiled professional insights on the best abilities you can slot.
This definitive top 15 list will showcase Crisis Core Reunion‘s most overpowered, must-have Materia for decimating enemies.
Types of Materia
Before ranking them, let‘s briefly recap materia types:
| Type | Description |
|---|---|
| Magic | Offensive and defensive spells using MP |
| Command | Weapon abilities costing AP or nothing |
| Support | Passive buffs for paired Materia |
| Independent | Self-sufficient bonuses and boosts |
| Summon | Call powerful monsters via DMW |
Now, onto the cream of the crop!
#15 Hell Firaga
Type: Magic
MP Cost: 52
Effect: Shoots 3 flaming missiles that also inflict Poison, Stop, Silence and Death.
Kicking things off is the first area-of-effect Hell spell, Hell Firaga. It builds on Firaga by infusing fire missiles with nasty status effects capable of crippling most enemies.
While great against groups, I prefer using it on priority single targets. Stopping a powerful foe while melting their HP with recurring fire damage really gives you the upper hand. It‘s also obtainable very early.
How To Get
- Buy for 15,000 Gil in Wutai Secret Shop
- Complete story missions
- Firaga + Poison fusion
Bonus Growth: +1 Magic
#14 Tri-Thundaga
Type: Magic
MP Cost: 64
Effect: Strikes all nearby enemies with three lightning bolts for heavy damage.
Building on Thundaga‘s capabilities, Tri-Thundaga calls down even more volts to fry entire mobs at once. It‘s extremely useful against worm and aquatics enemies weak to lightning.
While costly to cast, the increased MP expense pays off through hefty bonuses when leveled up. It also unlocks reasonably early by completing story missions.
How To Get
- Complete story missions
- Open chests in select missions
- Steal from Three Stars enemies
- Fuse with Libra/Goblin Punch
Bonus Growth: +20% MP
#13 Dispel
Type: Magic
MP Cost: 10
Effect: Removes beneficial enemy buffs like Protect, Reflect and Regen.
At first glance Dispel doesn‘t seem too impressive since it doesn‘t damage foes. However, by dispelling an enemy‘s buffs, it allows your entire team to hit much harder. Think of it like exposing the enemy‘s weak points.
Against shielded/regening enemies, I‘ve found Dispel extremely useful support. And at only 10 MP, it‘s easy to weave into your rotation. It also confers some minor boosts to magic defense through levels.
How To Get
- Buy for 5,000 Gil
- Complete "EM Hell" mission
- Esuna + Libra fusion
Bonus Growth: Slight Spirit increases
#12 Hell Blizzaga
Type: Magic
MP Cost: 52
Effect: Drops an ice block that also Poisons, Stops, Silences and Deaths targets.
The frozen version of Hell Firaga, Hell Blizzaga is great for debilitating foes while damaging them. Alongside raw ice damage, it can Disable enemies through myriad effects, or outright remove them from battle.
This orb truly shines against bosses and other single targets. Freezing an enemy solid while your allies wail on them is extremely effective. It also confers better magic through levels.
How To Get
- 15,000 Gil in Wutai Shop
- Complete story missions
- Blizzaga + Esuna fusion
Bonus Growth: +1 Magic
#11 Darkness
Type: Command
Cost: 12.5% HP
Effect: Drain‘s Zack‘s HP to attack all nearby enemies while ignoring their defense. Damage scales with lost HP.
Despite the self-sacrifice, Darkness can be downright beastly against groups. Trading some HP for defense-ignoring AoE damage is well worth it. The best part is Darkness gets more powerful the closer Zack nears K.O.
It‘s risk vs. reward – nail the timing and you can demolish weaker mobs. But mistime it and you‘ll be hurting! This orb is best saved for clutch moments when the battle seems lost.
How To Get
- Complete story missions
- Steal from Devils/Demons
- Graviga + Libra fusion
Bonus Growth: Minor HP bumps
And that covers the first half of Crisis Core Reunion‘s best materia! Stay tuned for parts two analyzing the top offensive and supportive abilities to utilze. Until then, hope this gives you insight into weaving the most powerful magic and commands into your repertoire!
