Lead Belly renders rads nearly harmless, preventing attrition from chip damage. Having high HP buffers allows you to focus on maintaining food/water rather than constantly popping RadAway. I relied on this build extensively when learning HCM mechanics.

However, the increased ammo weight will encumber you severely. Use travel routes efficiently, utilizing workbench breaks and companions as pack mules!

#3: Distance Domination Sniper

For those who prefer surgically eliminating threats before they realize what‘s happening, the Long Range Sniper is my top choice. This calculating builder leverages stealth, positioning and scoped weaponry to tactically control engagements.

Cranking up Luck is also pivotal for reliable critical hits to KO dangerous Legendary enemies rapidly when exposed temporarily. Overall this is likely the safest HCM playstyle given proper positioning and engagement control from Stealth/distance. Just be conservative with costly ammunition expenditure until industrial production is restored!

#4: Medicine Specialist Support

An often overlooked yet invaluable archetype is the Survivalist Medic – focusing not on personal conquests but enabling the Frontline forces in essential ways. This altruistic builder keeps his squad reinforced in combat and stabilized outside it thanks extensive medical applications.

Several perks give huge bonuses to healing potency, poison/radiation resistance alongside chem duration. This allows rapidly restoring health pools between skirmishes. Multiple doctor bags also ensure sufficient healing reserves. The Medic‘s Aid items and Chem production focus is a welcome damage buffer!

#5: Psychotic Melee Character (CQC Madness)

Melee combat imparts tremendous risk on hardcore difficulties with no room for error. However, heavily reinforcing attack speed, damage bonuses and DR against retaliation fire enables succeeding against mammoth threats that devastate other builds, like charging deathclaws or nightkin masters.

While chem reliance hampers economic stability slightly, combining alcohol for DR with steady Psycho ingestion enables managing the sustained face paced shred-fests against mutated horrors and machines without being 1-shot due to lower DR. The burst heal from stimpaks also helps mitigate attrition tradeoffs!

Just be warned, several rapid crits from heavy swings can still collapse this maniac. But going out in DOOM OST fueled melee glory taking on an army solo beats sniping from roofs in my book!
