Is Destiny 2 Still Fun Without Raids? My Friend, Let Me Show You All the Adventure That Awaits!
Destiny 2 offers a massive galaxy of content across various game modes, expansions, and seasons. But one activity towers above them all – raids. These pinnacle 6-player cooperative missions are renowned for elaborate mechanics, communication demands, and prestige rewards. However, not every Guardian has the time or interest to take on Vault of Glass, Deep Stone Crypt, or other raids.
You may be a casual player who prefers logging in to shoot aliens for an hour or two each night rather than coordinating schedules for multi-hour marathon raid sessions. And that‘s awesome! But will skipping raids diminish your enjoyment of Destiny 2? Will you still find rewarding pursuits and engaging endgame?
Well my friend, let me put your mind at ease – Destiny 2 offers tons of fun even if you never raid! Story campaigns, strikes, Crucible, dungeons, exotic quests, seasonal activities – there are so many avenues to power up your Guardian and enjoy exciting challenges.
Now, raiding is a special experience that‘s worth trying someday. But it‘s not at all required to have a good time in Destiny 2. Let‘s dive deeper into everything this action epic has to offer more casual players like us!
Destiny 2 Has Something For All Types of Players
First, let‘s set the stage by outlining all the different activities and modes Destiny 2 contains:
-
Story Campaigns – Cinematic missions across various expansions that tell the evolving saga of Guardians versus our enemies.
-
Strikes – 3 player co-op tasks focused on combat and culminating in epic boss battles. My favorite way to kick alien butt!
-
Crucible – Competitive multiplayer versus other Guardians. Test your skills in various playlists and mods.
-
Gambit – A hybrid PvE/PvP mode where teams race to kill enemies and defeat each other. It‘s wild!
-
Nightfalls – Timed, scored, and modified versions of strikes with improved rewards. Put your skills to the test!
-
Dungeons – Like shorter 3 player raids with cool mechanics and boss encounters. I love running these!
-
Raids – The pinnacle 6 player cooperative experience requiring intricate teamwork. Reserved for hardcore clans mostly.
-
Seasonal Activities – New modes and missions each season tying into narrative themes and characters.
-
Open World Exploration – Lush destinations like Europa and Savathun‘s Throne World inviting you to uncover their secrets.
I‘m sure some modes catch your interest more than others based on your playstyle. And that‘s ok! Bungie has deliberately created a wide spectrum so all types of players can enjoy themselves.
Now let‘s look at reasons you can have an absolute blast in Destiny 2 even if you avoid raiding.
Why Non-Raiders Enjoy Destiny 2
Here are some of the biggest benefits you‘ll experience if you don‘t raid:
More Relaxed Gameplay
Raids require hours of attempts while groups learn mechanics, communicate, and develop strategies. The intensity isn‘t for everyone. Skipping raids means your Destiny 2 hobby remains a more chill experience versus the stress of progression raiding each week.
Faster Progression
By focusing on activities like seasonal challenges, dungeons, Nightfalls, and Crucible, you can quickly earn drops that boost your power level each season. I‘m always impressed by how fast my fireteam gears up just doing our favorite modes!
No Need for LFG
Raids don‘t feature matchmaking – you need to manually find teammates on platforms like Discord. All other PvE content includes automatic matchmaking so you can just jump in and play. Way more convenient!
Go At Your Own Pace
From exploring patrol zones to completing exotic weapon quests, most of Destiny can be enjoyed solo without any coordination demands. It‘s just you, your guns, and hordes of aliens!
Tons of Variety
Between vendors with daily bounties, three new strikes every season, evolving dungeons, and seasonal activities, there is so much fresh content to experience beyond raids. I never get bored!
You‘re Not the Only One!
Believe it or not, only 19.8% of Destiny 2 players have completed a raid according to Warmind.io player statistics. So if you skip raiding, you‘re with the majority! Destiny is clearly still fun for all of us non-raiders.
What Do You Miss By Skipping Raids?
Of course, raids do provide certain exclusive experiences. Here‘s what you‘ll miss out on by not doing them:
-
Some Exotic Weapons & Armor – Certain exotic drops like One Thousand Voices or Collective Obligation only come from raids.
-
Highest Stat Gear – Raid gear can drop with overall stat totals 5-10 points higher than other sources. A minor edge.
-
Prestigious Titles – Completing raid triumphs unlocks titles like Rivensbane showing off your accomplishments.
-
Raid Cosmetics – You‘ll miss out on emblems, shaders, sparrows, ships only available to raiders. Bungie‘s rarest cosmetics.
-
Master Level Challenges – Raids test skills like no other content. Victory means joining an elite club of players.
However, is this truly make-or-break content? Let‘s examine how obtainable these raid rewards actually are through other means.
Raiders Don‘t Have Exclusive Access to the Best Gear
While raids offer certain armor and weapons no other mode does, raiders don‘t have exclusive access to Destiny 2‘s most powerful gear. Through some luck and alternative activities, we non-raiders can still earn top-tier exotics and stats.
Exotic Engrams
Random exotic drops can potentially decrypt into any exotic in the game, including raid ones like Anarchy or Always on Time. I actually got 1K Voices from an engram last month!
Lost Lights Monument
This relic located in the Tower allows you to directly purchase exotics, including raid drops, using materials earned from easier activities. Far easier than actually raiding.
Xur & Nightfalls
Xur‘s weekly visits and periodic Nightfalls also offer chances at exotics through less demanding gameplay. Plenty of opportunities for us non-raiders to snag raid exotics!
Dungeons & Exotic Quests
Many dungeons and quests reward exotic weapons just as strong as anything raids offer. My favorite is Outbreak Perfected – shreds in PvE!
| Source | Sample Exotics |
|---|---|
| Dungeons | Gjallarhorn |
| Exotic Quests | Dead Man‘s Tale |
| Season Pass | Ruinous Effigy |
| Umbral Engrams | No Time to Explain |
As you can see, we can absolutely acquire amazing exotics through more casual PvE gameplay!
In terms of high-stat armor, remember raid drops only average 2-5 more points in overall totals. It‘s a negligible difference – 68 vs 70 strength for example. Plenty of dungeon, prime engram, Iron Banner, and season pass armor rolls high too!
So don‘t worry about missing crucial gear. We non-raiders can still flex equally powerful exotics and stats!
Non-Raider Endgame Is Rich With Pursuits
Now that we see raid rewards aren‘t essential, what engaging endgame pursuits can we strive for instead? Destiny 2 offers many long-term milestones for non-raiders to chase:
Hunt Triumphs
I love scouring every planet for region chests, eggs, fragments and other secrets tied to triumphs. It sends me down fun rabbit holes off the beaten path!
Chase Seals
Earning seals and titles through activities is hugely rewarding. I‘m close to getting my solo-friendly Deadeye seal finished!
Build Crafting
Experimenting with mods, aspects, fragments, and weapons to create fun ability builds has kept me entertained for seasons. An endless puzzle to solve!
God Rolls
Hunting for those perfect stat armor spreads or weapon perk combinations is an endless grind we can tackle solo or with friends.
Max Power Level
Slowly improving my gear through vendor challenges, engrams, and pinnacles gives me a satisfying sense of growth each season.
PvP Excellence
I know some friends who only play PvP. Reaching Legend in Competitive and going Flawless in Trials is their only focus. More power to them!
Alts & New Perspectives
I‘m having a blast lately playing my Titan main after focusing my Hunter for so long. New abilities and playstyles keeps things fresh!
As you can see, we have no shortage of meaningful milestones we can strive for even if raiding isn‘t one of them.
The Most Enjoyable Parts of Destiny 2 for Non-Raiders
We‘ve covered many great reasons Destiny 2 stays fun and rewarding even if you avoid its most hardcore activity. But what parts in particular do casual players like us find the most enjoyable? Let me share the activities that always pull me back in:
Armor Build Crafting
I love creating ability setups that let me demolish aliens with space magic. Especially on my Warlock! Experimenting with mods, exotics, fragments, and aspects to achieve fun builds provides endless pursuits.
Vibrant New Destinations
Exploring the artistry and secrets of Bungie‘s worlds is simply a joy. Whether it‘s mystical Savathun‘s Throne World or post-apocalyptic Old Chicago in Lightfall, incredible new places await us every expansion.
Chasing Exotics
That glorious rush when an exotic engram finally drops or quest reward appears – what a feeling! I never get tired of seeking out new weapons and armor to try.
Dungeon Dynamics
Dungeons strike the perfect balance for me – somewhat intricate mechanics combined with 3 player matchmaking convenience. I wish Bungie would add even more!
Competitive Crucible
While I‘m far from the best PvP player, pursuing ranks and reputation levels provides plenty of motivation to improve my skills against other Guardians.
Awesome Lore
Destiny‘s universe has such richness. I often lose myself reading lore tabs, soaking in intricate backstories, and pondering cosmic mysteries. The narrative depth keeps me invested.
As you can see, Destiny 2 offers no shortage of compelling pursuits and satisfying fun without stepping foot in a raid. Don‘t let fears of missing out stop you from enjoying yourself!
You Got This! Destiny Awaits, My Friend
Hopefully I‘ve shown you how Destiny 2 is stacked with exciting content and meaningful endgame for players like us who prefer to avoid the pressures of raid progression.
Story campaigns, strikes, seasonal activities, PvP, dungeons, exotic quests – there are so many avenues to adventure down at your own pace. Powerful gear and builds await through more casual activities too.
Sure, you may want to try a raid someday to experience Bungie‘s ultimate cooperative challenges. They represent impressive pinnacle content created by some of gaming‘s most brilliant designers. But raiding isn‘t at all required to have a good time and feel continuously engaged season after season.
So don‘t worry about what you might miss. Just focus on all the epic adventures still ahead of us! Wield the Traveler‘s light against imposing darkness. Save the Last City alongside stalwart allies. Uncover every secret the cosmos conceals.
This is the beginning of another long and rewarding journey, my friend. Destiny 2 offers years of fun for all players on the horizon. I‘ll see you starside!
