• Using the Masuda Method (trading foreign Ditto)
• Encountering max raid dens

But without these shiny boosters, that 1 in 4096 base rate makes Riolu a rare sight. It‘s no Mythical or event-exclusive Legendary, but I‘d still classify it as an uncommon shiny find.

Next up is the iconic Gold Star Riolu from Rising Rivals. These special cards were limited to just 5 per set, making them insanely scarce.

A PSA 10 mint Gold Star Riolu fetched over $400. And they can go for 4 figures in auctions!

1st Edition Riolu

As with all starters, the 1st Edition Base Set Riolu card holds a special place for collectors. This nostalgic card is a hot commodity.

PSA 10 Gem Mint copies have sold for $100 – $150. A steep price for an uncommon, but 1st Editions are always in demand.

Where Does Riolu Rank Among the Rarest Shiny Pokemon?

• Certain Mythicals – Darkrai, Deoxys, Arceus have very limited shiny distributions

• Shiny Costume Pokemon – Some costumes like Clone Charizard are shiny locked making them unobtainable

• Shiny Legend Beasts – Entei, Raikou, Suicune have the lowest shiny rates among legendaries

So while Shiny Riolu stands as exceptionally rare, an argument could be made for many of the ones listed above as the rarest. Especially shining beacons like Shiny Unown C and regional forms.

At the end of the day, Riolu sits comfortably among the top 10 rarest species. And in PokémonGO specifically, it stands on an elite pedestal of its own!
