Why I First Fell for Storenvy

I‘ll admit, I got totally sucked in when I first came across Storenvy. As I browsed the shop directory and homepage product suggestions, they did an amazing job showing beautiful, interesting inventory at every turn.

Supporting small biz: As someone drawn to independent creators on platforms like Patreon and Buy Me A Coffee, I loved the idea of helping these little stores survive and thrive with my purchases. The human connections felt good.

With so many things calling to me, I completely understand how easy it is to lose hours obsessively combing through Storenvy shops. At one point, I had over 20 items sitting in my cart that I wanted to buy directly from sellers in Turkey, Uruguay, Thailand and beyond. Trust me, FOMO is real!

Seeing these shortcomings first-hand, I realized chasing the novel discoveries came at a BIG risk. As much as I wanted to support international indie brands, the headaches I might open myself up to seemed inevitable.

This lead to a bunch of soul searching questions before hitting checkout:

• Will my items actually be delivered within 60+ days or did I just hand money over for nothing?
• Will quality match the listing or arrive damaged?
• If unhappy, can I realistically get a refund/exchange?
• Is this store legit or could my payment details get stolen? Am I funding illegal activity?

With doubts creeping in but still feeling the urge to snag those Instagrammable earrings…what’s a shopper to do?

I ultimately forced myself to step back and assess options based on a risk management mindset.

Tips to Shop Smarter on Storenvy

Here are a few recommendations if you likewise feel tempted to purchase something cute from Storenvy but uncertainty leaves you hesitant. These tips aim to help validate store legitimacy, understand total costs, set expectations on delivery and returns, plus outline alternatives to still get what you want with less chance of disappointment:

Review shipping timelines – For sellers shipping internationally, plan for 8 to 12 weeks to see your order based on other customer transit logs. Mentally write off the purchase and see its arrival as a nice surprise rather than counting on standard time frame.

Take video evidence upon opening package – Should you need to file a damage/faulty claim or return request, diligently capture opening the parcel on your phone as proof given language barriers stalling text explanations.

Explore alternative sellers – If bespoke Storenvy products still call to you strongly, do some sleuthing to see if sellers may have standalone stores on Shopify/BigCommerce/WooCommerce platforms for easier support. Or explore copycat/homage products on mainstream marketplaces like Amazon.

Stick to browsing – Favorite inspiring Storenvy stores and products for eye candy to fill your mood boards and Pinterest with. But actually complete purchases from retailers like Nordstrom/ASOS whom you trust will reliably deliver and handle any post-arrival issues.

I know it‘s a bummer to discover these bumps as Storenvy seems so full of potential. But better to go in eyes wide open, evaluate your risk appetite
and have workarounds in place rather than learn the hard way!

At least you can still get the dopamine rush of discovering amazing international styles and small shops. Just maybe buy from them selectively unless you like playing unpredictable shopping roulette!
