Once you‘ve descended roughly 50-100 feet and avoided skewering yourself on the stalagmites, navigating the initial mine tunnels requires special care. Expect to use ore deposits, climbable vines, overhangs, and stamina-draining wall jumps to traverse the jagged terrain.

Based on Link‘s expanded traversal options, however, crossing wide ravines using the grappling hook and glider combo should help bypass danger zones. Just be wary of threats emerging from the darkness as you make your way deeper inward.

If you‘d rather not risk life and limb hurling yourself into that crevasse, heroes can access the mines through the South Akkala Chasm instead.

Located south of Zora River, this entry point still involves a harrowing descent. But arriving through Akalla avoids the lengthy early traversal of Lanayru‘s upper mine tunnels.

Instead, you start in the Depth‘s lower sectors, closer to your target destination:

Seeking Unioj – Beacon in the Dark

Either entry point eventually leads to a forked tunnel with a defining landmark: the Unioj Lightroot. Seek out and activate this luminous plant to illuminate your path forward.

As you travel deeper, additional Unioj bulbs provide essential visibility. Glowing owl statues also help guide your heading. By referencing their directional clues, you can avoid losing all sense of direction in the disorienting darkness.

Based on early footage, the route eventually slopes downward into natural caverns and underground lakes. Traversing the increasingly claustrophobic and maze-like spaces requires staying alert to avoid sheer drops or aggressive amphibians waiting to strike.

If you ever feel truly lost, seek out higher vistas using the clawshot. Survey for landmarks like ore gleams or ruined architecture amidst the gloom. Getting stranded without light sources deep underground spells certain doom!

Confronting Calamity Kohga

Link‘s entire infiltration of Lanayru Mine builds toward an inevitable confrontation with the leader of the Yiga Clan: calamity incarnate known as Master Kohga.

Stage Design: Underworld Arena

The abandoned mine chamber housing your clash features icy subterranean lakes and rocky outcroppings surrounding a main central platform.

The terrain provides various opportunities for cover and high ground. But also limits room to maneuver against certain area attacks from the chaos-sowing Kohga.

Based on my experience dissecting boss arenas, the lakes could either douse fiery attacks or conduct electricity – so experimentation will prove key. Just beware entering water also hinders mobility against certain area attacks.

Phase 1: Surprise Assault

Your longtime foe arrives fashionably late to the party aboard a humble raft at the center of the arena. Positioning himself just out of reach over the icy waters, ranged attacks will likely be necessary to force him to shore.

But this fight becomes chaotic quickly since Kohga isn‘t alone. Two elite Yiga archers provide supporting fire from the cliffs above, raining arrows down on intruders.

I recommend immediately lifting off the central platform using your sailcloth then targeting bombers first. Glide sideways across their line of fire while delivering mid-air headshots. Dispatch them quickly before Kohga can erect defenses!

Eliminating those pesky snipers gives time to gather your bearings and formulate an assault plan.

Ranged abilities are key to countering Kohga‘s showboating

With the Yiga leader treading water solo now, target his raft from a distance using bomb arrows to force him ashore. I suspect Cryonis could also extend ice platforms across for direct confrontation.

Up close, expect chaotic, unpredictable movements and strikes augmented by Sheikah tech sorcery. Guard against throwing weapons, area blasts, even summoning portals and obstacles to block your path.

Patient, observant offense is key here – exploit every opening without getting greedy! Chip away until he teleports away to plot his next move.

Phase 2: Piercing Kohga‘s Defenses

Having sustained significant injuries, the crafty Kohga re-emerges shielded inside a floating geometric prison. This impenetrable bunker lets him hover safely out of harm‘s reach.

To break his defenses requires turning Kohga‘s own attacks against him. Pay close attention to visual tells preceding strikes:

• Jagged spikes protruding outward signal an impending charge attack – evade then use stasis rune to halt movement and expose his flank.

• Glowing red crystals foreshadow magical explosions – use the new Recall ability to capture and redirect blasts back at their source.

• Chunks of stone torn from chamber walls indicate boulder throws – deflect using shield parry then magnesis slingshot rockets straight through his cocoon!

Cracking the shield likely requires repeating this process several times. But remain observant and steadfast until an opening finally appears!
