Mastering the Journey to Tears of the Kingdom‘s Third Shrine
As an avid Zelda fan whose sunk over 200 hours across the franchise, few gaming accomplishments satisfy me more than conquering the tricky yet rewarding pilgrimage to the Gutanbac Shrine in Tears of the Kingdom. While reaching this third shrine mark a major milestone on your quest, many players struggle with the multi-faceted challenge it presents.
Let my hard-earned experience guide you each step of the way, friends! In this detailed walkthrough, I‘ll equip you with everything you need to seamlessly traverse enigmatic locations like the Pondside Cave, adapt Zonai technology to overcome environmental obstacles, and claim the treasures within the Gutanbac Shrine.
Crafting Solutions with Zonai Devices
Your journey kicks off quietly within the unassuming Pondside Cave along Hyrule‘s eastern shores. Yet resting within this humble cavern is a Zonai creation of immense importance – the Ultrahand rune! This grants the power for unparalleled construction projects.
We‘ll first utilize it to fashion a sailboat from scavenged parts:

- Locate a plank long enough to brace the width of your body
- Gather branches suitable for lashing together as the mast
- Scraps of cloth or leaves work nicely for the sail material
With those components assembled, bind them tightly together with the Ultrahand rune‘s glowing tendrils. Test your vessel‘s stability before embarking by allowing it to drift temporarily unattended. Minor leaks aren‘t concerning, but it shouldn‘t dangerously list or spin.
Harnessing Zonai Fan Devices
Your initial crossing will rely on natural winds for propulsion. But an inventive replacement awaits on the opposite bank! Use an Energy Cell to reactivate one of the many inert Zonai devices scattered about Hyrule – this one taking the form of an adjustable fan contraption.
These ancient machines grant environmental influence when combined with the Cells‘ power. Once awakened, rotational force generates directional gusts able to replace natural winds. You‘ll exploit this to recreate your sailing apparatus!
Follow the same construction steps, replacing the organic mast with the sturdy metal fan. The mechanical draft created propels you across once again! However, the fan‘s limited arc means you must periodically pop off to adjust its direction.
Ascending the Treasury Caverns
Having crossed the pond, a pair of minecart rails hint at your next move. This network of Abandoned Mine Caves contains both puzzle and promise! Insistently dark, you‘ll want to ignite your lantern before proceeding.
Several early pathways branch, but stick to the main track heading upwards. I wasted hours down fruitless dead-ends in my first descent! Halfway along you‘ll spot an alluring blue crystal embedded in the cave wall. Retrieving it unlocks shortcuts necessary for smooth navigation on return trips.

Higher up the main shaft splits around the hunkering form of an ancient Forge Constructor. This signals you‘re on the correct path, as such relics oft hide near shrines. Unfortunately here the minecart rails end abruptly! Switching to foot, leap between broken segments of rail forming makeshift ziplines to ascend safely.
My Brush With Disaster
While an exciting parkour challenge in retrospect, my initial attempt crossing that chasm produced heart-stopping results! Overconfident in my agility, I barely leapt clear as the rails snapped. The crystal‘s fall boost softened my landing – yet resulted in a freshly sprained ankle. Lesson learned – always pack food providing regeneration!
The uppermost cavern here touches the surface, daylight pouring through cracks in the ceiling. Be ready, however, for an abrupt climate shift. The high mountain altitude drops temperatures well below freezing despite the sunshine. I maintain a hearty supply of Spicy Meat & Rice Bowls specifically for the warming boost they provide before heading upwards.
Unearthing the Gutanbac Shrine
Few obstacles remain separating you from the shrine now. Traverse the Bottomless Caverns with care – they live up to the ominous name! Paraglide safely between the fragmented islands comprising the cave floor to reach the far wall.
This sheer cliff face looks unscalable at first glance. But use that glowing gem found earlier in combination with the Stasis Rune to transform the surface into a climbable ladder. Hoist yourself up to behold the Gutanbac Shrine in all its fully glory!
The Ascend Rune waiting within grants the almost supernatural ability to phase through certain surfaces and climb vertically ad infinitum. It‘s an indispensable addition for accessing previously unreachable locations. Yet the true reward is overcoming the journey itself – besting that tricky trifecta of sailing, spelunking and climbing.
