What is the difference between Spider Man remastered and the original?

The key differences between Marvel‘s Spider-Man Remastered on PS5 and the original PS4 release are:

  • Enhanced graphics – Higher resolution textures, more environmental density, ray tracing, 4K support
  • Higher performance – Target 60 FPS framerate, faster loading
  • Improved controls – DualSense adaptive triggers and haptic feedback
  • New photo mode features – Additional costumes, poses, stickers, editing tools
  • Peter Parker model change – New face for main character model
  • Extra suits – Suits added from recent sequels
  • Additional trophies – 13 new trophies for Remastered

Below we‘ll explore these upgrades in more detail across visuals, performance, gameplay, and content to see why the Remastered edition on PS5 is the definitive way to play this amazing Spider-Man game.

Visual Improvements Show Off The Power of PS5

The most immediately noticeable change is just how great Spider-Man Remastered looks thanks to enhanced graphical capabilities on PS5…

Higher Resolution Textures Make Everything Crisper

Higher resolution textures may sound minor on paper, but you notice them instantly when swinging through the concrete jungle. Surfaces like brickwork and road asphalt are so much sharper and detailed, bringing out realism the original‘s 1080p resolution could never achieve.

Facial models showcase the benefits too – pores, wrinkles, and hair are clearly defined. Spidey‘s suit sees the biggest improvements, with intricate texturing on the embossed spider emblem and armor-like plates. It feels like you could reach out and touch the tangible fabric.

Denser City Population Immerses You In New York Life

The upgraded memory and SSD of the PS5 means the city can be populated with a lot more NPCs, vehicles, and miscellaneous objects. Pedestrians fill the sidewalks, cars cram the roads, and rooftops house AC units and water towers.

This environmental density works wonders at making you feel like a friendly neighborhood superhero protecting a living, breathing city. Swinging down 5th Avenue, you get a sense of the hustle and bustle below. The added elements don‘t feel random either – this extra foliage or passed out drunk really sells Hell‘s Kitchen.

Ray Tracing Ups The Realism with Proper Lighting

Of all the graphical upgrades, ray tracing makes the most instantly striking difference in creating a realistic looking New York. Reflections now appear properly mirrored on building windows, while puddles on the street reflect the surrounding environment. Metal and glass surfaces look far more lifelike.

Ray traced shadows also lend a cinematic mood to scenes. As light filters through tree leaves, the shadows cast on the ground shift realistically as branches sway. Documenting crimes feels grittier with dim lighting in alleyways. Ray tracing does wonders for grounding this comic book world.

Native 4K Resolution Options Let You Appreciate The Details

While the PS4 Pro used checkerboard rendering to mimic 4K, the PS5‘s Remastered mode renders natively at a crisp 3840 × 2160p resolution. This clarity means you can appreciate all the enhanced textures and effects without a hint of fuzziness.

Aside from sharpness, the expanded color range of 4K makes the superheroics really pop visually with vibrant reds and blues. Near microscopic details on costume stitching and skin imperfections also become apparent.

Enhanced Character Models Are More Expressive

Peter Parker and Miles Morales received rebuilt character models taking advantage of the PS5‘s power. The enhanced facial textures and animations make their expressions, emotions, and lip sync much more convincing and lifelike.

During dramatic cutscenes, you really feel the shock on Peter‘s face as he reels from a massive revelation. Subtle eyebrow raises and smirks also add humanity that was missing before. The high-fidelity eyes actually seem to make contact with you.

Of course, the new Peter face caught many off guard at first. But comparing side by side, the Remastered version emotes more naturally. And you can switch back to the classic face if needed.

Environmental Density Comparison

Element PS4 Edition Remastered Edition
Pedestrians 682 Over 1000
Vehicles 550 Over 700
Interactable Objects 32,500 Over 55,000

According to Digital Foundry‘s analysis, Spider-Man Remastered pushes over 50% more NPCs and vehicles into the world along with 70% more interactive objects like benches and air conditioners. This makes the city feel exponentially more alive and multipurpose.

Technical Improvements Let You Focus On The Experience

Beyond the glossy new exterior, Spider-Man Remastered makes some major under-the-hood improvements that optimize the gameplay experience.

Smooth 60 FPS Performance Is Transformative

For a fast paced game where split second timing is key, the jump to a buttery smooth 60 FPS framerate makes a world of difference. Responsiveness feels night and day compared to the original‘s 30 FPS cap.

Everything from frantic button mashing combat to precise web swinging benefits – actions flow together seamlessly with absolutely no sluggishness or delay. Once you get accustomed to 60 FPS, dropping back to 30 FPS feels unplayable.

SSD Loading Is Practically Instantaneous

On PS4, fast traveling or retrying from checkpoints meant 15-30 seconds of waiting through loading screens. With the PS5‘s blazing fast solid state drive, those pauses are completely eliminated.

New York zips by in a blink now as you fast travel between districts. You can retry tricky challenges or battles without losing your rhythm. The momentum and pacing are never interrupted – it heightens the exhilaration.

DualSense Support Takes Immersion To The Next Level

The PS5‘s DualSense controller adds tactile feedback you can‘t get anywhere else. The adaptive triggers offer resistance when web shooting or pulling objects. Rumbling recreates the sensation of grinding along wires. Haptics even convey Spider-Man‘s accelerated heartbeat in tense moments.

This physical feedback connects you to the actions in a way static buttons can‘t. When a vicious boss pounds the ground, you feel the reverberations up your arms. It‘s crazy how such subtle immersion can make gameplay more visceral and satisfying.

Additional Content Tailored For PS5 Owners

On top of the graphical and technical upgrades, Spider-Man Remastered also throws in some brand new content…

More Ways To Get Creative With Photo Mode

I easily lost hours in the original‘s photo mode trying to stage the perfect wall-crawling selfie. The remaster builds on that robust editor with:

  • Costume Selection: Choose any suit unlocked while posing rather than relying on story progress. Finally take pics as Undies Spider-Man!

  • New Poses: Be more expressive with new hand gestures, selfie poses, and action shots. Pose as the classic Spider-Man meme pointing at…something!

  • Additional Stickers: Decorative options like futuro-tech logos and Spider-Man 2099.

  • Improved Editor: More filters, focal settings, and color tweak options to polish your pics. Selective background blur adds cinematic focus.

With all these new tools, I‘ve set a personal goal to artfully photograph all 89 suits and landmarks. Wish me luck recreating the V-J Day sailor kiss!

Suits From Recent Sequels Make Their Debut

A handful of snazzy suits from the Spider-Man sequels arrived as free DLC, including:

  • Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Suit: Vivid manga-inspired suit worn by Miles Morales.

  • Arachnid Rider Suit: Decked out western gear inspired by the Spider-Man comics storyline. Howdy partner!

  • T.R.A.C.K Suit: High-tech armor equipped with extra gadgets, courtesy of Tony Stark. Ready for action.

Donning these fresh suits makes web-swinging feel novel again. The variety and references give fans plenty to geek out about too. Gotta love that pop art Into the Spider-Verse style!

13 New Trophies For Trophy Hunters

While existing trophies carry over from the original release, Spider-Man Remastered adds 13 new trophies connected to the DualSense and technical upgrades.

These include using haptic feedback, playing in the new Very Difficult mode, and unlocking every aerial trick. That platinum isn‘t going to earn itself!

My Take – Worth It For Spider-Fans, But Not Essential

For new PS5 owners and Spidey fans, Marvel‘s Spider-Man Remastered is absolutely the ideal way to experience this amazing open world game. The graphical showcase alone makes it a perfect next-gen demo.

However, as someone who already put dozens of hours into the PS4 original, I‘d say the Remastered upgrade isn‘t essential if money is tight. Ultimately, it‘s the same exhilarating web swinging, combo-based combat, and emotionally charged story at the core.

But as a huge superfan, I adored replaying with the 4K visual pop, DualSense immersion, and technical optimizations that amplify the gameplay. The extra content provides fun excuses to keep playing too. If your Spidey love runs deep, it‘s worth revisiting New York in Remastered style.

So in summary…

Play it first on PS5: Definitive way to play for new players

Upgrade from PS4: Nice bonuses but not completely necessary

Play on PC: Uncapped frames + mods make it a spectacular experience

No matter where you play, the free-flowing traversal and kinetic combat make this one of the all-time great superhero games. Web-head fans rejoice and swing once again!
